Kings of After: The official tumblr for discussion and promotion of my fan-comic of the same name.

The goal of the project: To create doujinshi starring Pokémon gijinka-style characters that is written to make sense, dynamically drawn and illustrated in full-color, using official lore to support the premise and an original story until the bitter end. Suggested media: Ink and Watercolor; Ink and Colored Pencil; scanned pencil drawings colored photoshop-style.

The goal of the blog: To post at least three posts a week related to this project until the concept is complete, the characters designed, and the first page ready for prime time. Further goals pending.

I've got the general story worked out, so my next step is a heckuvalotta research.

I like the imagination part of writing a story. As a rule, I am a "rules" sort of person, so this part involves me making my own rules to define the world.

For instance: What makes gijinka pokemon gijinka?

Searching "pokemon gijinka" on google gives up everything from people dressed vaguely like pokemon to human-shaped creatures with ears, tails, funky skin colors and awkward postures due to weirdly-shaped legs or heavy shells or fins or wing-arms or all of the above. So what makes gijinka pokemon in my world? Is there a set rule for designing them, or do I have more than one kind? Are there different levels of human/pokemonization?

The questions would stop right there if this were just drawing for drawing's sake, but no - this is a story with characters surrounded by a world with norms, where people are expected or even required to react to people around them in certain ways.

Sometimes you hit a block, and other times you look at a project you've started for yourself and just freeze because WOW that's a lot of work and what if you can't do it you'll have failed yourself ahhhhh. This would be one of those other times.

The unintended result of some character designing. The characters will be gijinka (pokemon in human form), but Glaceon is one of my favorites and will definitely appear in the story.
