Most people didn't seem to understand that there was a lot of PAPERWORK involved in the running of the Underworld. Hades had to make sure that each soul in his realm was accounted for, and that each of them went to the correct place. And if something happened, he needed to be able to account for EVERYONE. It could be rather tedious, at times.
It did help that, if he went among the shades, he was able to tell who each of them had been in life. But he didn't always have the TIME to do such things. Which meant that keeping the paperwork in order was imperative to keep the Underworld running smoothly, which then ensured that the balance between life and death would continue, the way that it was supposed to.
He was deep in thought, a frown on his face as he looked over some of the records, trying to account for the discrepancies he was seeing when he heard a familiar voice at the door of his office. Hades looked up to see his son watching him. A small smile slipped onto his face at the boy's words, and he gestured him forward into the office, if he wanted to come in.
"I'm afraid in this instance, it DOES have to be me," he responded, sitting back in his chair. "I help to keep the balance, and if I DIDN'T....., well, you saw what happened when the Doors of Death were forced open," Hades said, his expression darkening at the memory. That was NOT something he wanted to repeat; he was STILL making sure everything was back to normal, and it was not exactly an easy task.
"Did you come all the way down here just to tell me I'm working too hard?" he asked with a soft laugh. Persephone had been here to tell him something similar, not too terribly long ago. Maybe he SHOULD take a break, if both his wife and his son thought he was working too hard.
