Harrison waited for him to get the drink, lifting his glass. “Cheers.” He said before taking a mouthful. “So, basically what happened was this couple were on a date, they went to this family owned restaurant, and something they ordered came out wrong, like they’d ordered it a particular way and it didn’t arrive how they’d ordered it. But, anyway, so they sent it back, being all polite, totally chill, and this old lady comes storming out of the kitchen screaming in some language I’ve never heard before. Someone called us, and by the time we showed up, there was food everywhere, the old lady was red in the face from yelling, the couple just looked fucking confused. Next thing, in English, this lady starts going off about a goat. It took us a good thirty minutes to make any sense of it all. It was fucking wild.”

After that little cheers moment, Jax eagerly began to down his drink, only stopping half way because he didn’t want to seem like a total desperate guy for some drinks. As he heard all of the man’s story, Jax’s eyes widened, then they went back to their original state, but later they widened again. “Wow, that sounds like one heck of a meal. You got food and entertainment all in one. However, I would’ve been terrified to be caught in the fire of all that yelling. So my take is...all of that happened in front of the whole restaurant? I bet the customers were like I don’t know if I want to come back here again.”

“I don’t think people just are that blunt”, Maddox said. It didn’t really have anything to do with Jax, the guy just was being nice. Compliments just got him flustered. It happened with everyone. It wasn’t even that blunt, he just was bad at this. “Oh”, he said. He wasn’t really flirty as a person, and he didn’t really do this. He didn’t hang out in bars much, but it happened much. “That… thank you. But I was told once I’m painfully straight so”, he said. And he was bad at taking compliments. He was kind of hard to flirt to, he just got flustered and a little confused.

“She did. She was really amazing about it”, Maddox said. His wife had never minded having to support him, that was how marriages worked. He had figured out how to make a living out of this by the time he met his second wife, but Madeleine was a lot more successful than him too. She could have supported him financially too, but did not need to. “I’m sure there are, but I realize I’m a lost cause there. Learning most things takes time and patience, but I don’t think… me learning public speaking is not going to happen. You learning to draw Donald could happen.”

As he thought about it, he had figured that he’d been known to be blunt when it came to certain things. It wasn’t surprising in the least, but he did know that he hadn’t thought about being that blunt until now. “Now that you mention it, I am pretty blunt.” He shrugged, finding himself chuckling softly now. “Painfully straight? Well dang, here I was thinking maybe I had a chance.” He only joked now and began to laugh to show that it was all lighthearted. Plus, this guy was pretty kind to Jax, so that was always a good thing. 

“I think it’s adorable how you talk about her. She was lucky, huh?” He added with a soft grin now, just being friendly, while also being very genuine. He seemed like he really loved her, at least that’s what the professor gathered from the conversation anyways. “Well at this point me learning to draw Donald is about the same as you learning more about public speaking. I don’t think I could draw that well anyway.”

“I plead the fifth.” Mak laughed, holding her hands up. And here she thought she’d gotten away with the blush. “See now 39 isn’t old, one of my good friends is 39 and he doesn’t seem 10 years within that. Same as you. Ah, talk to me about that when you hit 50,” She smirked playfully. “Well mahalo, honestly I actually went cave diving once. It was a lot of fun. Let’s be real, alcohol helps with a lot honestly.” Mak retorted with a hum. Genuinely it was true, alcohol usually made things more fun anyways. One brow quirked up as she smirked, eyes moving over Jax in reply. “Hey, if you bring a blanket I won’t turn down sex on the beach. Just not right in the sand, it gets everywhere.” Was it forward of her? Yeah, probably. But truthfully that was a bit of her charm. “If I could get your address that’d be fantastic.” Mak shook her head. “If there are more attractive professors I have yet to meet one…I just realized that’s the first time I’ve heard your name. I’m Makala, but you can call me Mak.” She offered with a soft smile. It was crazy she’d only just realized that she hadn’t introduced herself properly. “Oh I’m sure you do, I have no doubts there.” Mak shrugged as another smirk tugged on her lips. “I like to think that I have some smarts being a Marine Biologist? Who knows though,” She took a sip from her drink before chuckling. “Oh yeah, I’ve totally left a trail of broken hearts behind me.” Mak agreed with a humorous grin, truly though, it was a total lie. She was sure she hadn’t broken any hearts…yet. “Trust me, I can’t wait either. I have no doubts either way it’ll be fun,” Mak grinned, tugging her lower lip between her teeth.

“I’ll just take that as a ‘yes Jax, you were right’.” He said softly, even batted his eyelashes a little bit to show just how silly he was being. Well thank you. Me and your friend must have magic powers. Geez, fifty? Give me another decade and i’ll probably already qualify for senior discounts.” He shook his head, only joking of course. “Tell me more about your cave diving? I’m intrigued. I’d have to agree there. Plus, there’s so many drinks to try that how could one not drink?” Jax then found himself arching an eyebrow, realizing now that the woman was so bold and honestly, he was impressed. “As fun as that sounds, I think i’m all talk. I’m too chicken to do that.” He really was and plus, he didn’t know how other’s did it, but he figured they had more guts than he did. “Sure thing.” He then reached for his phone and typed his address in, only turning the screen to show her. “Makala. That’s beautiful. Fine, i’ll stick with Mak, even though it’s not nearly as cool as your full name.” He teasingly rolled his eyes before licking his lips. “You definitely have smarts then. I bet your job is fun, too.” Jax figured it would be considering it was most likely what she loved doing for a living. “See? Now all those guys are wishing they could’ve kept you and who knows if i’ll be next on that list.” He shook his head. “Of course it’ll be fun. You’re talking to Jax here. I’m the man with a plan. A plan for fun that is.”

She watched him, seeing him kiss against her knee and breathe out a sigh. “Mm… already?” She was surprised, but flattered. And in a few more minutes, she’d be excited again too. She watched him, ran her dainty foot along his front, down his bare chest to his cock. She let it brush it slowly and murmured, “I would love to see how good those hands get… maybe you should show me. All over again… maybe even a bit more than before…” She murmured, thinking about all the things he could do. Christ… okay, maybe she was ready for more too.

She had laid back, exhausted, watching him with an affectionate, tired smile on her face. “A drink? I could always do with more wine.” She teased. He kept running hands along her legs and she of course would never complain, laying back. “Mm… you like my legs, don’t you?” Celeste asked teasingly, putting a foot against his bare chest as he kept rubbing it. “But you’re… very good, with those hands. Aren’t you?” She murmured.

“Oh, uh, don’t worry. She ain’t jealous or nothing. So you’re good, dude. She’s…well, she’s great. Sort of everything I’m not. You know. Patient. Giving.” Imaginary. He managed a smile nonetheless, offering a laugh. “On my shoulders, sure. For now. I’d leave it on the bus if it weren’t screwed on and shit.” He shook his apparently secure head distantly, leaning into the playful contact. “That’s nice of you, man. Really,” he replied at last, taking a sip of the soda. He gave the bartender an appreciative nod. “But we all got our stuff, huh? We deal with it.” He hummed softly. “Thanks for the ginger ale. Cheers.” Rolling his shoulders, he perked up, evidently trying to shift the subject. “But, uh, tell me about your writin’ and all, boss. I ain’t ever been good at that kind of stuff. No brain for it. Did some sports way back when. That was more my thing, you know?”

“She must be the complete and total package.” Jax chuckled softly, just feeling happy for the other of course. He then laughed at the other’s joke? At least he was under the impression he was joking and then added, “You’re pretty hilarious. But seriously, you look pretty put together.” He worded, for a lack of a better term to use. “Oh anytime, but really, there’s no need to thank me.” Jax shrugged as he chewed on his bottom lip. “That’s the truth. My stuff isn’t all that bad though, I don’t think?” He hoped not anyway. “Cheers, Cedric.” The man added before taking a sip of his drink. “Well, as of now i’m working on writing my novel outside of my grading for my students papers. I think i’m pretty far along actually. Oh yeah, of course. What kind of sports were your favorite?”

“Me? Nah, no way. Must be the sun tinting my cheeks now.” She grinned playfully. “Older? C’mon now, I don’t believe that.” Mak teased back. “Hmm, I’m thinking either you were bitten during a cave dive, or maybe even when you were out surfing a massive wave. Either one would be believable. Oh you’d look awesome with a surfboard, an absolute babe.” She couldn’t her grin brightened at the image that put in her head of the man. Mak shrugged. “Let’s just say it was a been there done thay scenario I definitely don’t recommend to people I like.” She laughed. “At least not directly on the sand, then I say have at it.” The raven haired woman teased, sometimes her mouth ran before her brain could catch up. “Perfect, I should be free either tomorrow or the next day? If that’s too short of notice we can push it out. Professor? Oh c’mon, why couldn’t have any of my professors during my college years look like you? Totally unfair.” At his use of the Hawaiian term Mak chuckled as her lips tugged into a smile. “Beautiful? Now careful there babe, if you keep that up I may just start liking you for more than your looks.” She teased with a smirk. “Ah I see, looks like you may be burning there…your cheeks are getting darker.” Mak pointed out with a smug expression, the woman biting down on her lower lip. “Here’s hoping I don’t lose it anytime soon. Well baby I’ve got good news for you, I’ve never been much of a heartbreaker.” The woman retorted teasingly, tucking a lock of hair behind her ear. “Sounds good to me, you’re on Professor.”

“Mm something tells me that’s not true at all. I think I kinda made you blush there.” The man winked while using a playful tone in his voice. After all, the other was quite entertaining. “Okay, okay, i’m thirty nine, but once I hit forty, isn’t all kinda downhill from there?” The man arched an eyebrow, just joking a little bit of course. “Cave dive sounds more bad ass. I gotta give you your props for coming up with those scenarios on the spot like that. I think alcohol really gets out creative juices flowing.” He hummed softly. “So let me get this straight, you had sex on the beach before so now other guys get to lose out on that chance with you?” He joked some more obviously, but he was just hoping that wasn’t too forward. “Come over whenever. Do you need my address?” The man asked as he reached for his phone. “Oh no, i’m sure there are better looking professors than me. I’m just Jax. A nice guy who likes his coffee in the mornings.” He shrugged, not really one to put value in looks really, but compliments were always welcome to him. He secretly loved them because he felt good and they made him blush, just like he was doing now. “Hey, i’m more than a pretty face. I got smarts.” He teased. “Just like i’m sure you’re smart and beautiful.” He added softly. “Oh really? I would imagine all those guy’s hearts you’ve ever broken just wishing they had you back.” Jax then shook his head. “Well then I can’t wait to see who wins this bet.”

“Honestly, I’m not the greatest storyteller, but the details alone make it one hell of a story. I was there when it all went down and I still laugh just thinking about it.” Harrison said, unable to hold back laughter. 

“Oh come on, i’m ready to hear it, no matter how much you think you are not a great story teller.” He hummed. As the beer came, the man raised his glass and said, “Cheers.”

Mak’s cheeks flushed again, though thanks to her skin tone she didn’t think it was all that noticeable. “Awe, mahalo. Think you may need to get your eyes checked but I appreciate the compliment. Oh you already look like a badass, this will just heighten that vibe even more.” She mirrored his smirk as she chuckled. “Yeah? Well if you want some help coming up with a good shark attack story, I’m your gal.” Her smirk morphed into a grin at the wink, enjoying the sight of it. “I’d love that. Honestly you’re so right, its probably my favorite place in the world. The sand is awesome…until you try to have sex on the beach and then it isn’t as great.” Mak teased, though she knew that fact all too well. Truthfully she was already looking forward to their beach trip, good company and at one of her favorite places? Sounds like the perfect time to her. “I’ll bring the pineapple and fondue, you bring the food, honestly I’m starting to like the sound of that. Your place or mine?” Plan 2 already seemed to be forming, and Mak would be lying if she said she wasn’t looking forward to it. She beamed when he used the Hawaiian term, nodding. “’A’ ole palikir, which means you’re welcome or no problem.” Mak smirked mischievously at that. “Sure, yeah absolutely not. Must be the sun tinting your cheeks.” She feigned a serious expression, but the corner of her mouth quirking up gave her away. “Good, means I haven’t lost my touch.” She winked. “Oh you’re on, what’s the bet mate?”

“Is someone’s cheeks changing color?” Jax asked teasingly while his laugh became a bit louder. “I know i’m an older guy, but I think my eyes are still good.” He joked around. “Well then, as my gal, what do you think we should say is my shark story? I’m open to these ideas. I might even have to buy a surf board and really get into that beach life.” He figured Mak was perfect to help him out here because she was an expert at this stuff. At the mention of sex on the beach, the man widened his eyes and blinked a bit. “Oh wow. That was an answer I did not expect to hear.” He ended up laughing hard though because he could see how the sand would be uncomfortable and really, the man wasn’t expecting that answer at all. It all just came out of nowhere to him, but he wasn’t complaining. “It’s a hangout then. We can do my place this time. You just pick a day and no, i’m not one of those busy professors who only focuses on grading my life away, so i’m free almost any time.” He chuckled. “Well  ’A’ ole palikir  to you too, beautiful.” He winked at the woman, figuring that was a compliment instead of a ‘you’re welcome’ response. “It is. That sun is absolutely the worst, I gotta tell you.” Jax shook his head while his blush got darker. “You probably could never lose your touch. Oh a wink to me? Careful, you might steal my heart or something and i’m not ready to be left heartbroken.” He playfully clutched onto his chest. “The bet is loser has to do a truth and a dare of the other’s choosing. Sound good?”

“I’m, uh - I still don’t get… hottie”, Maddox said. He would admit, he had aged rather well and he had been married twice so guess it had worked in his favour. He still got more compliments about the food, or the art - he was still bad at taking those compliments too, but not as bad. For those he actually worked for, he just looked like that. He would still argue it wasn’t something to praise, he liked cooking and his art was just a lot of practice. “And I’m sure you don’t mean it like… that”, he said with a frown. Surely the guy wasn’t trying to flirt with him, because Maddox could be a little bit blind to that. Might be why he was single.

“She didn’t, no. She got me through a lot”, Maddox said. Talking about his wife was always a little melancholic. He really fucked up all the time and talked about her like she was still alive, usually until people asked. “I’m sure I’m not. It’s a little too close to public speaking, and I don’t think that can be learned. You can learn to draw Donald”, he said. “Is it now what you want to do?”  

“Well then consider me shocked at this point. More people need to open their eyes.” He smirked at the other. The man then arched an eyebrow and ended up tilting his head because honestly, he did mean hottie in like the flirty way, unless the other wasn’t getting that yet or didn’t like the flirting from him. “I uh...I did though.” He scratched the back of his head as he let out a hard chuckle. It was cute that this man didn’t seem to catch on to his flirting, but Jax had to admit, he wasn’t the most forward and bold when it came to flirting with people. In fact, he mainly got shy around that stuff because he had never really had a whole bunch of relationships in his past. 

“See? So don’t feel bad. I’m sure she really cares about you.” Jax hoped he wasn’t overstepping any boundaries because he wanted the other to be okay talking about a past marriage. “You’d be surprised, but I think there are some lessons out there to improve public speaking. Well yeah, that’s true, but it takes time. Not many people would have the patience I don’t think.”

“Good, because there’s one about this couple and an old lady losing her shit at them about a goat. Honestly, it might be one of the weirdest things I’ve ever seen. I don’t know if I’ll be able to do the story justice, but it was fucking funny.” He chuckled, recalling the story. “Another beer would be great, thanks.” Harrison said with a nod, smiling.

A goat? Jax had to admit, that sounded entertaining and very funny if he did say so himself. “Oh i’m sure i’ll be cracking up no matter how you tell it.” Already, he felt like chuckling just watching the other. “Anytime.” He added before ordering the other a beer.
