Chocolate manufacturer Hershey’s Canada’s campaign features five women who each is presented with a special chocolate bar throughout Women’s History Month. One of them is a transgender woman: Fae Johnstone.

First of all: Hershey, thank you for embracing trans people in such a way!

Needless to say, transphobes have used this opportunity to spread more hate.

Fae says the backlash she received “demonstrates exactly how much the far-right is zeroing in on trans people and trans women in particular.”

The reaction to my inclusion as a trans woman in Hershey’s Canada’s IWD campaign shows just how far we still have to go in the fight for feminist liberation and trans rights. They’re coming for us. We need our allies now more than ever.

She says that she is proud to be a part of this campaign alongside four brilliant young women and change-makers: “Thank you, Hersheys Canada, for including me in your campaign.” 

She is also thankful for the feminist and queer organizations speaking out in support and solidarity.  A large number of  organizations have come out in support of Fae.

Keep in mind that haters will always hate. It is due to their limited empathic abilities and their need to take their own frustrations out on others. Do not let them define your understanding of humanity. Most people good people. Keep your eye on them.
