I was married for 15 years. It was far from perfect. We both were young and we both had issues and we disagreed on a lot of things. I’ve been divorced for 5 years now and even though I am much happier now and enjoying my life, I would be a huge liar if I didn’t admit that there are times I miss being in love with someone.

Lately I have been seeing a lot of posts on social media from women who are announcing their wedding or pregnancy or posting pictures of their kids. And no matter how selfish this sounds, it hurts my heart. The Bible teaches the importance of rejoicing with those who rejoice and weeping with those who weep. And I want to do that. I do. But when you see so many people around you celebrating things that you’ve deeply desired or dreamed about, it’s so freaking hard to not want to throw your fists in the air and shout “That’s not fair! I should have that!”

We all have seen posts on social media or reports on the news about people neglecting or abusing their children, and we all know that there are wives who take their husbands for granted or husbands who intentionally mistreat or disrespect their wives. For those of us who don’t have a spouse or children it’s very hard to see those who do and who aren’t appreciating their spouse or children as much as they should.

I want to be truly happy for those I know and love who are happily married and having children but it’s so hard to not get jealous at them and be angry at God for how unfair it feels.
