These pieces, inspired by Kandinsky's "Several Circles" (1926) have taken me a while to finish, and I learnt a lot. They were a lot of work, but it's nice to have them finished. They have shapes set in resin, inlaid dots and lines, applied pieces - all cast and sanded and polished by me. Behold! The Kandinsky colour theory pieces. Inspired by illustrations and sections in "Concerning the spiritual in art" (1912). These pieces have handmade resin shapes set within swirled black and white resin, which is then sanded and polished. Something a little bit different. I make jewellery which wears jewellery now. Look at her tiny necklace! She is made from a self-made mold taken from an Art Nouveau brass furniture decoration. She is studded with vintage rhinestones, has pearlescent perspex flowers in her hair, with vintage faux opal centres. She wears a gold plated chain with tiny eye charms, and a pearl with a snake charm on it. I made this necklace to go with this dress. Alas, I feel like the magnetic closure I used isn't quite strong enough for me to feel like it's 100% secure when I wear it. I really want to use more magnetic clasps so that the necklaces I make are easier to put on, but I'm constantly worried about how strong they are/aren't. This necklace has wooden, fabric, and rubber beads mostly, to keep the weight down. My current procrastination project, making homages to vintage Bakelite heraldic King and Queen brooches. I found some cheap copies (with no metal work) to make a mold from - and spent ages searching out brass beading, pendants, and other decorative bits and bobs to decorate them. More pieces in progress inspired by Kandinsky's 1925 work "Swinging". He tried to paint movement as free from the constraints of the material world as music. I then tried to constrain that image into a piece of wearable resin art. I ask myself, am I learning about Kandinsky's work by making these pieces (my aim), or have I missed the point? 😆 Spending time making these was my way of spending time with the image trying to learn from it. Hopefully, other people also like what I made.
