changing it up

honestly i don't know much about Foals, other than i like them. they're kind of like Sparta - pop-y and fun. that's just about it. TGIF.

talib kweli is all over the EDM scene these days - first Break Science, now Union. looks like he's trying to ride that wave, and is doin' it well! i've been a long time kweli fan, but Union is new for me - so far, so good.

i was introduced to Aeroplane a few years back when he was partnered with The Magician. Both of them are awesome French DJs that know how to keep the party going with their disco/hip hop tracks. however, after listening to them for years, sometimes their tracks/mixes can get a bit repetitive, but they're fun and definitely have a good thing going.
check out The Magician's Magic Mix Tapes on Soundcloud - pretty sure he's come out with close to 60+ at this point. start at the beginning with his early tapes, if possible.
Baths is a band my buddy David got me into a while back - really like them. they're kind of Bibio-esque but are a bit edgier. this song in particular happens to be very much like Bibio, but i recommend going through their top tracks and exploring their depth.

screaming females + garbage = rock rock rock.
this track came out last year and absolutely blew me away. the dynamic between paternoster and manson is incredible. not to mention, paternoster shreds so hard.
proud to say - the screaming females were the first band i ever interviewed. during our conversation, they made jokes about being in rolling stone, and now she's ranked in the top 100 guitarists of all time. incredible.

after yesterday's post, i was doing a little digging on Elle Goulding...
she's got a great voice - super unique. plus, her music is catchy. typically not one for pop, but she's got it a-goin' on
she has a large collection of awesome covers, of which i am very impressed by the variety and quality/thoughtful execution. http://bit.ly/163045R
this track is a cover of my of my favorite alt-J tracks. enjoy the original, but was very surprised to hear this when it popped up in Spotify. it sounded too familiar to not be a cover, and then did some looking into it. very impressed!
i'm always down for a good mashup. they important part is that it isn't over-produced. Carlos Serrano does it well with this track, and anothers with Adele x Daft Punk, Jay-Z x The Glitch Mob, Kanye West x The XX.
speaking of the XX, search on Soundcloud for "The Notorious XX" - you won't be disappointed.
fact: this is actually how i first heard of elle goulding - i don't know much of her catalogue, but she does have a really unique voice.
i used to be a HUGE @lotustweets fan. i even interviewed the bassist, Jesse, while i was writing for the Rutgers paper - a highlight of my journalistic career. since then, they've transformed from a raunchy electo-rock band into a flowing medley of hip-hop with straight riffs and funk. i mean, they've always have been funky, but they are definitely adding a new layer with lyricists on almost every track of their new album, Monks. glad to see Lyrics Born and Mr. Lif get some proper time on this album, too.
i've recently dubbed Reptar as my "new favorite band" - they have great range, are super fun, and very catchy. easy to like for getting pumped up, getting work done, or just background noise.
jksouldotcom has really evolved his sound over the past few years, but his old stuff still rings true. if you like this, check out his other track titled, The Music, for a grand ol' time.

Nate Ruess of .fun and The Format gets love all over the place. this collab with one of my favorite musicians of all time, Anthony Green, is fantastic. it's an older track, but it's too good not to share. i highly recommend checking out his solo work, as well as his main band, Circa Survive. they rock real hard!
Green just came out with a new solo album, which i haven't had a chance to listen to yet, but i'm sure it'll be a good listen. it's titled Young Legs - if you hear it, let me know and we can discuss.
for a while (last year) i was listening to this album all day, err day. love this track - Bun B kills it; great cameo.
