I Fucked Up Big...

I used to talk with some neighbors in my neighborhood, and my mom caught me talking to one of them one afternoon. She told to never speak to them ever again. I still kept in contact. My brother became friends with the kids and I would tell him some stuff and we kept a pretty good network. Just tonight, he was supposed to go Trick or Treating with some friends. They ditched him. I texted him about the kids and said to keep it secret, but he blurted it out cause he’s horrible with confidentiality. My mom then starts grilling us and my brother says how the family says she hates them and things escalate to a level where my brother and mother are screaming and my mother and father are screaming. All because I kept trying to talk to these people after she said no. All this arguing is completely my fault. A supposedly normal Halloween night is gone to shit because I tried to go behind my mother’s back. And I think my dad is being forced to go over and blast them for the things the family has apparently said to twist my brother around. I don’t think I can go to my mom and say it’s because I kept talking to them after she had said no. But there’s nothing else except for the family being blasted. It’s all going from zero to one hundred so quickly and I just don’t know what to do...

I’m a fan of Type Moon. But I can’t deny how shitty their fact checking is, especially when it comes to world history. Here’s one to start with. I originally had this as a response to a post but I’ll just go ahead and copy-paste it here:

Francis Drake was not the first person to circumnavigate the world. This is information erroneously spread by Type Moon for some reason. He was indeed the most well-documented navigator, by nature of being English. But he wasn’t the pioneer. He carried out the second circumnavigation of the world from 1577 to 1580, and was the first person to complete a circumnavigation as captain but certainly not the first person to. The honor belongs to the Magellan-Elcano expedition - a Spanish excursion from 1519 to 1522 first led by the Portuguese navigator Ferdinand Magellan and then later on by Juan Sebastian Elcano. Magellan himself was not able to continue the journey but his ship “Victoria” survived along with 18 out of its 42-man crew (The entire expedition itself used to have 260) and was able to return to its origin under Elcano’s leadership. Another strong candidate was Enrique de Malacca, a Malay slave under Ferdinand Magellan who’s origin was of the Moluccas in Indonesia. While not initially being part of any expedition, he nonetheless traveled westward from his homeland to Spain upon his capture and then accompanied Magellan’s voyage even further westward in its quest to circumnavigate the world through the pacific.

They very directly address Magellan’s voyage in both Drake’s Fate/Extra and Fate/Grand Order profiles.

Sir Francis Drake is generally considered the first person to successfully circumnavigate the globe (the first person known to have attempted this feat – Ferdinand Magellan – was killed halfway through his voyage).

Grand Order:

Francis Drake is the first great man who accomplished the circumnavigation while still alive (the very first, Magellan, died midway through).

The point is, he wasn’t the first person to. The first person to complete a voyage as captain, sure. But to claim that he was “generally considered the first person to successfully circumnavigate the globe” is misplaced merit. As I pointed out on my post before, there have been notable people who have done it decades before Francis Drake was even born. He’s not generally considered at all. Recorded history in no way recognizes Francis Drake with this feat. He is duly recognized as the first successful captain; and I believe the credit of greatness lies there. But to promote a false notion is irresponsible on Type-Moon’s part.

He was part of the crew and assumed captaincy. The entire remaining crew lead by Elcano completed the circumnavigation. Enrique de Malacca was a slave who was shipped to Europe and then later on joined the crew, effectively being the first to circumnavigate by virtue of traveling the original western route from Moluccas to Europe , and then back again to Asia through the Pacific with the expedition.

I think the fans might be to blame for the misconception. TM says themselves to “successfully circumnavigate” and just make the assumption that he first did it and done. While yes Magellan was before Francis, he died midway, so under Magellan’s name, it is not completed and therefore not successful. It would be similar to if you started a project by yourself, stopped halfway through, and someone else picked it up compared to someone else who did it all by themselves. You yourself didn’t complete the entire project, but the other person did
