The reasoning behind my piece being documented on this worn table is because this is the table that I was laying on whilst being casted. I was freezing, uncomfortable, vulnerable, and in immense pain in the position I stayed in for several hours. The darkened background is to hint toward the disoriented way I was feeling while this was happening. I stuck through the eventual throbbing numbness in my hands to get the cast. The idea behind my whole project took a turn after feeling all of these negative emotions to get the cast of my back. The painted design is to represent the exposure, pain, and discomfort I felt while making this. The 3D bones are to further amplify the appearance of the bones I was trying to highlight when in the position I chose to stay in.

de-TABLE-ization Neutral Setting Documentation + Reflection

Doll (wood, twine, acrylic paint)

This sculpture threw me for a loop. I don't know why, but for a while I was feeling really uninspired. Eventually, I had the idea to make a doll. I was really excited and wanted to go big. I decided that due to the amount of time I had left it would be wise to go smaller. I decided to do a marionette. While whittling the head, I almost cut my finger off and had to get stitches. It was an interesting turn. What also took an interesting turn was my idea. I decided that I was quite enamored by the limpness of the doll I had created and scratched the marionette idea. I wanted to engrave it with something that has an open ended meaning, one that anyone can make different conclusions about. I started to think of voodoo dolls, children's toys, decorative dolls, relics, and sex dolls. All of them are used one way or another. I took the idea of the stereotypical voodoo doll and dremeled a heart shape where a heart should go, and wrote "USE ME:" on the back. My goal is for people to draw their own conclusions about the motivations of the doll.
