There was not much happening between setting up all of my components for my website and getting done besides actually building the website and putting all of the information together. I feel that curating what specific information I wanted to put in the website, what to leave in or out, was the most time consuming because I want this website to be a one stop for visitors who want to learn all that they want and need to before visiting the island.
I chose the topics based off of my time as a tour guide and the questions I get the most/the information that my tourists value the most.
Once I got all of my components in I began building my website. My original plan was to make a video to go on the website as well but I was building and putting in my information I realized that there was quite a bit of information that was already in my website. Everything that I was going to put in the video was already said, I did not want it to be a complete repeat of information so I decided that the website was enough.
I planned out all the components of my website first before I began to build.
This is the first page or the Home page of my website.
Before starting my website I wanted to get the basic design elements down. These would include colors, pages, elements, and the overall vibe that I’m going for when creating this website. Personally, I like to sketch things out on my iPad so that I am able to get all of my ideas out and sift through what I like best.
I decided to lean more towards the dark green forest feel for this website and maybe add in some sunset tones on one or two of the pages. Overall I want it to be clean and interesting to look at so that readers don’t get bored.
I also decided that I was going to use Wix to build my website. I was going to use Figma but I realized that it is more of a prototype builder and I want to be able to publish this website for people to see and also maybe share this in the future with people who want to learn more about the island.
I’d like to add here my finished user personas. I’d like everyone to officially meet Sharon and Randy.
Sharon Grant
Randy Gibbson
I curated these two user personas off of some actual people that I have met during my time as a tour guide. I also chose these two because they fit the two kinds of people that I see most who enjoy visiting the island.
I’ve noticed that the main people that like to visit are families, usually the mothers or wives are the ones who make the travel plans along with young adults who aspire to travel the world and experience all that they can.

Hello there, it’s been a while.
I will admit that I am not the best at posting, not only here, but on all my social sites. With that being said, I have been keeping up with and documenting my time doing my senior project, so let’s get caught up shall we.
I’ll be posting a few updates in a row to show the timeframe/succession of events and what I’ve been up to during the curation of this project.
At this point I have made headway in completing the majority of my website, I have a few more touchups to do like button, placements and creating more creative elements to keep my audience engaged while browsing through the website. My thought is that it can be a bit more interactive then what a website typically looks like.
I have begun shooting and editing the video for my website that will be the introduction to Kauai, and the first thing that people see on the website.
I was teetering a bit on doing complete interviews for the website or just getting quotes from people around the community. I feel that either would have the same effect and may add another element besides videos to this website.
These last couple of weeks I was focused on touching up my user personas to fit the audience that I am tailoring my website for, which are mainly tourists who look to visit Kauai.
Following this I am focusing the majority of my time right now designing my website, figuring out color palettes, positioning of buttons, icons, information, etc.
I’m focusing a lot of time on this, because I really want this website to be pleasing to look at so that anyone who visits the website can spend a good amount of time browsing without getting bored.
So far I’ve been able to organize my thoughts and get a better understanding of my bearings for my project.
 First off my Timeline:
User Persona/ Website (Sep/Oct) -> Video Footage (Oct) -> Editing (Oct) -> Interview (Nov) -> Editing (Nov) -> Final Website (Dec)
I’ve also been able to construct most of my user personas, I still have some touching up to do. After that I can solidify a color palette and work on designing the website.
Where are you now?
Currently I have a rough outline of my plan for this semester and how I am going to attack this project. I want to focus on building the website first and getting it all set up before starting on the video making portion. I will then focus on the videos, the main introduction video and the interview videos.
Where are you headed?
I am working on how I want to situate my website now and build the pages. The main hurdles that I may encounter may include, not liking how the website looks (professionally), finding information, and making it interesting for the people visiting. I can avoid this by using my imagination/creativity and researching.
(Ideas that I jotted down before starting)
