I do art (づ￣ ³￣)づ

I quite enjoyed how these turned out, the way that the light and shadows hit the model really brings out the muscles and shows form.

I did a number of 30 second to 1 minute quick poses, this was fairly difficult for me as I had trouble drawing quickly with me focusing too much on detail rather than the gestures/shapes resulting in bad proportioning. Throughout the weeks of life drawing I toned down on the detail and focused more on proportions and shapes which helped me draw quicker than usual. These are a collection of what I thought was my best quick poses, cropped and pasted onto 2 pages. The box forms helped me understand more on how bodies would look like from different perspectives, I was also surprised that you could make out which of the boxforms was male and female simply by just looking at the way the boxes were rotated.

Living in a world of illusion. Filled with looping thoughts, Replayed scenarios, thinking of what you could've, would've, should've said or done. Slowly losing touch with reality. Haunted by past failures hindering self-growth... Overthinking...

Originally I wanted to have an abstract/graffiti-esque look. I glued bits of news paper to the board and proceeded to paint over it leaving just enough of it showing through. I was planning to use mixed media with water colour, graphite and acrylics but I messed up with the face which I wanted to be water colour so I ended up painting over it with acrylics and then pretty much scrapped the whole mixed media idea.  As I went on painting I felt like it would be too cluttered if I were to add more to the background so I decided against adding graffiti text to it but at the same time it looked a bit too plain. 

My grayscale painting, despite being rushed on the final day actually turned out quite well, Again like all my works I wish I had worked on it earlier so I wouldve had time to add finer details but yea for the time spent I’m super pleased with this.

WIP of my grayscale painting. Today is due date and I’ve just started on this piece... I wanted to do something with a lot of negative space and have my focal point highly detailed compared to the rest of the image. I chose this rose as it showed good lighting and had everything in the requirements needed for the grayscale painting.

My creative piece :D although not exactly finished to my standards, I’m pretty proud of the face. I wish I had started this earlier when the assignment was given so that I couldve added reflection to the aviators and textures to the suit & tie. I feel like this piece does well to show my technical skills in painting like the colour, light, contrast, values etc. on the tigers face at least lol.

Finally finished my colour study... It’s a little bit on the rough side as I could’ve done better with more cleaner edges but after a whole day of painting this I never want to see another tomato again...

WIP of my colour study. My creative piece was taking too much of my time and the due date was near, I needed to start my other paintings. I chose tomatoes as it had a variety of textures, colour, light, contrast, value etc. originally I wanted to paint some fruits or vegetables outside of a photo reference but due to my inability to paint quick I had to use a photo as lighting would change and I was not going to sit in one place for 10-15 hours and also we had no fruits or interesting looking vegetables in the house.

More WIP’s of my creative piece, I really wanted to put a lot of effort into this one and take my time with all the details, its taking a lot longer than I thought it would.

WIP of my creative piece, I decided to work on this first as I was inspired by the exemplar shown which was similar to a piece I made back in highschool(2nd photo) *cringe*

Decided to just soldier on after failing with the charcoal and finished it. Pretty disappointed with the end result because I know I could do so much better, I guess its what I get for leaving it till last minute.

WIP of my creative piece. Worst decision ever to leave this one till last minute. I was feeling ballsy and decided to use charcoal which doesn't sound bad but It was my first time using charcoal and for some reason I thought you could easily lighten it with an eraser or erase it completely but you actually cant and its due the next day haha..ha... cries 

After the rough composition sketches I went ahead and did some thumbnail sketches. My aim with this was to find parts I like about each one to later use in my creative piece.

I wanted to do floating islands which ties in to my GAT130 & GAT120 classes. These are just some rough composition sketches.

Finally got around to finishing this tonal study, I wasn’t too happy with the turnout as the paper I was using was too smooth? it was a 250gsm cardboard-like paper which I thought would be best as it could withstand abrasion but it didn’t exactly take on the graphite too well so certain areas turned out lighter than I wanted it to be. But regardless, it shows of a variety of textures like the cloth, wood, metal and the grapes as well as lighting and shape which was the intended purpose for the tonal studies.
