We both know that in the game, the roles of screw up switch drastically from Javi to David. e.g, his many, many hypocritical and violent actions.

Whereas Kates descent is internal rather than external. I won't drag this post out to long, but the short of it; people like connections with some sort of mutual connecting, Kate connects to herself through Javi. Her actions feel selfish even though we understand they are derived from a sympathetic place. She never has a big, morally dubious moment, instead theres always these little acts of being right feeling like permission.

Kate is a tantalizing character. (when the game launched the waves of disgust for her was immediate, haha.) I remember mostly comments of contention were about her blunt selfishness, the immediate two that come to mind: kissing Javi infront of David and opting to have a kid with him.

I mentioned it before, but she is truly this lonely character who has this idea that having a family will solve her longing. Its without saying but even among David, Gabe, and Mari, she came across as this outsider: truly a "step parent" shell. She cared about them but in sterile way, never legitimately crossing into familial territory. I would point to her relationship Gabe as a prime example. Despite having a black sheep mentality, they never come to mutually understand each other or deeply bond.

It's hard to recall (having been years ago), but I believe one of her last lines in the game was, "Let's have a REAL family." It comes across as rather delusional, considering the aforementioned and insanity that just transpired, in the same tone of David's little endgame meltdown, "We'll go back to where we were once a family."

Went on a tangent there. What I'm saying is that her connotation of character is louder than her actual character. We know who she's meant to be, but who is she? I'll have to use the tried and true, making shit up to explore her character method.
