Here is my final design! It took a lot of work, but I am happy about the end result. The form is suppose to appear to being pulled into a black hole, along with the letters, and the oval shaped lines are creating that spiraling in effect.Â

Here is my final poster that I decided on and my iterations on the placement of the headline and body text.Â
Here are some iterations for my poster design and process of how I got to my final design. I also added in type and experimented with it becoming a part of the image.
Here are more photos I took while experimenting with glow sticks and I also extracted some images from videos I took while moving the flashlight. My professor gave me the suggestion to cut open the glow sticks and experiment with the liquid inside and these are some of the results.
The first two pictures are information about exploration and how it benefits Earth, a list of the materials I will be experimenting with, potential font pairings, and posters I chose as inspiration. I was most inspired by Koichi Sato’s posters, where he combined gradation, and images of space to create a unique design. I also experimented with combining some of the photos I took of the glow sticks.

These are more experimentation photos, except with glow sticks. I had my roommate move them around and I took photos of the glow sticks movements. I am happy with the results!
Here are some of my experimental photos with the flashlight and different colored transparent sheets. I was able to create some interesting effects and I am excited to see what other effects I can create.
Here is the assignment sheet that explains the criteria for this project.Â
Project 4 - Call to Action Posters
For this project I created a poster to communicate a message on a cultural event, social need, or social issue. I thought of three issues I wanted to do and came up with ideas of what I could do with them, such as creating a metaphorical image that clearly represents my chosen idea and what materials I could use to experiment with to create that image. This project mainly focuses on photography and experimentation with certain objects that goes with my social issue. The three ideas I had for this project was funding for space exploration, increasing environmental regulations, and ocean pollution. After making a list of ideas on what materials I could experiment with for each issue, I decided on doing the importance of funding space exploration. The materials I planned on experimenting with on this project were glow sticks, a flashlight, transparent sheets in different colors, and black poster-size paper. I had to do most of my experimentation at night, in order to get the effects I was going for. The most difficult part in this project for me was having to combine all the photos I had taken from my experimental stage, to create an interesting form or shape that looks like it would be something in space, like a black hole, or a nebula. I designed a lot of iterations, but I was able to decide on one for my poster and the final product turned out to be an aesthetically unique design, that represents space and explains the importance of funding space exploration. I learned a lot from this project, especially on how to use the Adobe Bridge program and further my experience in using photoshop on photos. I also learned to capture all of your experimentation process, by writing it down or taking a photo, even if I think it is not necessary.
Here are my finished printed out projects, they all turned out pretty good!

Here is my final envelope design! The inside is on the top and the outside is on the bottom. I wanted to keep it simple to match my cards.
Here are my final layouts and patterns! I made quite a few improvements on the layouts, like completely change how the leaves look, made the scientific name for the leafhopper smaller, and did some tracking on the body text to make the rags look a little more even and flow better. I also finally decided on the geography pattern, because I did quite a few iterations of them and I did some minor adjustments on the others too.Â
Here are some rough sketches for the envelope and I digitalized a few of my strongest sketches.Â
I was able to find a solution for my layouts and I am a lot happier with them and they are much stronger than my beginning ones. I found the inspirations for the layouts from a few examples my professor showed us in class. However, there are still improvements that could be done to them. Here are also some more additional patterns and I improved some of the old ones too. Â
Here are my patterns in their beginning stages. I like my patterns better than my layouts so far, so maybe I can draw some inspiration from them to help improve my layouts.Â

These are my first layouts, that are in the experimental stage and need a lot of work. I am not sure yet on which direction I am going with on these, but I hope I find my inspiration or an idea soon.Â
Here is a variety of my experimental digital renderings of patterns and illustrations for the front of the cards and sketches for the layouts. I also have some potential color palettes and font pairings.Â
