there's something really fun about how like. according to all Sources i have found many sailors abandoned the royal navy for piracy because the navy was so hierarchical and the officers were given so much power and piracy was the more egalitarian and democratic option. but flint comes from the navy as someone who managed to work his way up to officer and as someone who seems to prefer to function inside those rigid structures, or at least to be most at home there. so even as he is ostensibly fighting for the greater egalitarianism of the pirate world and of progressive values in general it's just not something that he personally is able to value. he doesn't have a democratic bone in his body. he went to the pirate republic talking about kings and wanting to quite literally run it like the navy and tried to fight for that pirate republic while acting like his word was law and every democratic proceeding was an annoying hinderance to his dictatorial rule. it's so good. i like him

flint says “so tell me something about yourself” to silver and he freaks out so hard he starts crying and gagging on the spot like flint just threatened his life

and he basically did. hes fully cornering silver into choosing between a lie and an insignificant truth when both would mean a regression in their relationship (which is still representative of his own livelihood at this point). in the doldrums the remission of his sin (of lying) is only granted through coming fully clean. now this is way worse than mysterious meteorological catastrophes and mild psychological torment. he can lie (death by implosion), open up and reintroduce himself as a complete stranger (death by evisceration) or say like “i had a mother and a father once. im from one of the americas” and it would be like a slap in the face compared to what he knows of flint. the deranged answer he gives to flint is literally the only answer possible if he actually loves him. which he does lol

if theres one thing that really pissed me off from my 3 years of architecture i took in high school it's learning about how we used to have all these little techniques to maximize or minimize heat or warmth and now we just merrily abandoned all those to have the same copypaste style buildings everywhere that are often INCREDIBLY unoptimized to the local weather and climate so we can just throw more money at our heating and cooling bills

where i live it is hot as balls approximately 80% of the year. i do not want a massive butt-ugly grey mcmansion with a huge echoey open-concept kitchen-livingroom-foyer-diningroom-staircase that has huge windows so i can have an hvac unit the size of a barge heaving and straining to keep it at a constant 72 the grees. i want a north indian traditional style home with small windows to force the airflow to cool, decorative grates to limit the amount of sunlight, and a COURTYARD with a POND *smashes unspecified large object*
