- Dextra is most similar to Artistic Attraction out of all of these, but its coining is intended to expand beyond the arts. Sapio is a term with a controversial history that focuses on the vague concept of intelligence/competence, and we were seeking something deeper. Dextra encompasses the effort put into developing a skill, the execution of the skill, the results of the skill, etc. It's also possible for it to be used as a way to define the source of another type of attraction, or for it to be combined with other types of attraction.
"Why the hexagon?"
- The hexagon is meant to mimic a radar chart (link)! Radar charts are often used to display several attributes and their intensities, such as in Persona 5, where a radar chart is used to display social skill levels. It's also used on the RAADS-R lol.
"Why the rainbow?"
- Gay! Just kidding, it's moreso intended to represent the spectrum of types of skills. Red: athletic, orange: education, yellow: academia, science and medicine: green, trade/blue collar: blue, arts: purple. Benny came up with these color associations!

Hello, not a request but a question.
I'm new to the mogai community and like the flag terms so much! I want to learn more about it to be as respectful as I can (was raised in transphobic house but one day realised that I can break the cycle of hate) and once of my questions was how do you come up with the names? my first language is not English so looking at some flags and their names confuses me. For example, lesbian, where does it origin from? looks very pretty though! (I understan words like bisexual, I think the bi- means two?) oh and another one was verian? i think it was spelt that, i find that one interesting since it doesn;t have the usual queer words in (sexual, romantic, gender, etc)

hi anon! first of all, don't worry, your ask makes perfect sense! you're being very respectful by trying to learn, and the terms can be very confusing in origin, even for english speakers.
you're right about "bisexual"! bi means two. as for "lesbian", it's a little more complicated. there was a poet named Sappho in the 600s-500s BCE, and she was born on the Greek island of Lesbos. many historians believe she was attracted to other women, so the term "sapphic" came from her name, and the word "lesbian" came from the island of Lesbos.
i think the other word you're talking about is "veldian", which can be used interchangeably with "turian", refers to gay men. the word "veldian" comes from the word "veldt", which refers to a large grassland often full of flowers. flowers are associated with homosexual men in the USA and UK, and maybe other countries too! "turian" comes from Alan Turing, a gay mathematician from the UK.
here are the origins of a few other common terms!:
MOGAI: Marginalized Orientations, Gender, and Intersex
nonbinary: not binary! binary refers to a coding system where there are only two possible values. so, in the case of gender, nonbinary is any gender that is not the typical male or female.
a lot of other terms that don't fit the usual -romantic, -gender, or -sexual format are made completely from pieces of words from non-english language. on our blog, we usually use greek or latin words as inspiration because english relies heavily on greek and latin! some mogai creators will include an "etymology" section on their post. etymology means the origin of a word, so that can help you with less popular terms!
