"The dog turned his head toward the person, and to his surprise, it was Elias-something-Avery (how was he supposed to remember the git’s full name? It was too ludicrously elaborate even for his taste). All he needed to remember was that Avery and Mulciber were his enemies and were responsible for pushing Snape down a path of no return.

It was almost funny how oblivious Elias was to the fact that he was patting Sirius Black. The blond man was dressed in elegant dark robes that practically screamed high-society wizard, smiling at a random dog on the street, with his pale green eyes looking soft in a way the Animagus had never seen before.

He was a disgusting supremacist, a fucking Death Eater.

"It should have been boring for most people to just watch someone live their daily life – but it wasn’t boring to him. It was fascinating. From the way Snape held his sandwich and drank his morning coffee in a nearby bakery to the way he walked, making his long black cloak float around his thin body. Sometimes, the young omega would enter a local bookshop to spend hours searching through different titles.

The dog always took note of what he used to buy. If it was muggle literature, he would choose something related to medicine or biology, and as for fiction, he liked classics and fantasy. If it was from the Wizarding World, he chose everything related to the Dark Arts and potions, as expected from someone like him. Snape was someone predictable, someone who didn’t like stepping out of his comfort zone.

If he liked a certain type of food, he would stick to it. If he liked a genre of literature, he wouldn’t pick a book that didn’t fit into that category. He was a lover of a quiet life, of simple things. It was almost sad to think that the war would take that away from him, that that same war would rip him away from everything he once considered safe."

"He and Caius talked mainly about classes or the Dark Arts. To Snape's surprise, Caius seemed to appreciate his company and gradually lowered his guard. The boy's interest only grew when he saw Snape's notebook, filled with numerous authorial curses. Later, some of Snape’s own spells were used to prank muggle-born students. The more effective the hexes, the more vicious they’d get as Snape improved them.

That’s when he made a valuable discovery: that power could buy attention. That power could fold the weak in half. That, that way, he caught the attention of two influent boys at once. So, Severus Snape never wanted to be on the weak side again. He’d fight against it and carve his rightful place in the world, one way or another.

He just needed to be patient."

"The guy in front of him smirked before taking a really, really long drag. Without saying anything, he leaned in over Snape’s body, stormy eyes locked onto onyx ones as Snape opened his mouth to complain or to curse Black with every insult he could remember.

Black took the opportunity to puff the smoke into his mouth slowly, making Snape suck it into his lungs. He kept doing it as their lips got closer and closer, and holy shit, Severus hated how easily he folded under Sirius’s wishes and provocations – every time they were alone together, it was like his brain turned into mush and he was back in his teenage years, when he was nothing more than a scared nerd.

A hare. A doe. A prey.

That made a lump form in his throat."

"And by no means did the little girl look scared. She seemed frail, with curly black hair and big brown eyes that reflected the light beautifully. She was just as pale as the man shouting at her, freckles scattered across her cheeks, a defiant expression on her face that felt far too familiar to James. It made Black’s blood boil instantly, and he wanted to fly over there and shove his entire broom up Mulciber’s arse. His nostrils flared, his teeth gritting so hard that it was a strain from breaking.

Onyx eyes looked back at him, and at that moment, Sirius got the urge to scream – which he repressed, of course he did. All he could do was keep staring until Severus stood up along with those dickheads to get down from the stands. And that gave Sirius a much greater sense of defeat than having lost the match."

"The Slytherin had to endure his heat four times a year, each cycle lasting three days. He had read about it in books, but nowadays, given the advances in potion-making and other medical methods, heat cycles were rare unless an omega chose otherwise – those who didn’t take suppressants usually had a mate or were trying to conceive.

Mated omegas often chose to have their heat cycles in order to maintain their bond with their alphas or partners, but that didn’t mean they could only get pregnant while on heat – quite the contrary. Fertile omegas could get pregnant outside of their heat cycles, but it wasn’t as easy as it was during those periods, especially for males.

Some omegas even synchronized with their alphas, causing their heat and their alpha’s rut to occur at the same time, increasing the possibility of pregnancy.

Severus had never given any of that much thought, as he had no desire to start a family of his own. As such, he had never paid much attention to the topic."

His black curls framed his elegant face perfectly, his unnatural red eyes shining beneath the lights like real rubies. Yet, the Gryffindor was overflowing with determination to stay focused on the game. He was determined to bring the lions the victory by being the best defense they could have."
