On Guard Roblox Designs
+ headcanons fanons galore
hi guys i pulled out my dusty roblox app to do this because i couldn't stop think ahahah- plus, i don't think anyone else has done this before (because i saw NO assets for it at all), and i wanted to do a take on this! it took a LOT of finagling and futzing around accessories and clothes to make them look like this, but i am happy :D
i'll start with these three first since they're kind of like the main guys whose POVs we follow, the rest will be in the upcoming reblog!
i'll split the bullets between design notes and fun headcanons (read: VERY big stretches off of lore bits and stories) sprinkled in that may or may not have influenced their result! i have a LOT to talk about, so take a seat! It's gonna be LONG. (border on rambly even...)
Operator/"Forte"/Emerald Green
preeety basic, but also comfy; no notes other then additional belt and a portable version of the simulation! (surely this has no consequences...)
absolutely loves beans, jelly beans, baked beans, packing beans, paw beans, you name it! something about round squishy things brings happiness. currency beans just NOT it though, those things are copper nuggets! not beans!
jack of trades, master of none; they do their best, but more often then not, they fumble at least one task. regardless of their shortcomings, they always prove to be resilient. although they're a self-described coward, by putting a brave face to the turmoils ahead, they strive to do what's right for others. no matter HOW much the world pushes back. they'll fight tooth and nail to keep others safe, even if it means they suffer in the process.
the eldest child of the Greens (adopted). after Clover became their new "mother" (read: caretaker) and took them to their home of WormHill, they meet their "father-to-be" (read: mentor) Sheriff Forest scrambling to chase after an energetic green bean... their new sibling.
despite growing up in a worm farm, they have severe scoleciphobia, to the point that if a worm suddenly appears out of nowhere (whether that be from the ground or from someones hands) they instinctively jump out in a cold sweat and shout "I HATE WORMS! THEY'RE WRIGLEY, THEY'RE SLIMEY, AND THEY TASTE HORRIBLE!"
"Forte" was a nickname given to them by the other children in their town as a malicious rumor of them being the... "Four Tailed Beast" that kept mangling the livestock in the fields. some say that the creature had green scales, others say it had purple scales, whatever the case will be, it kept leaving behind blood trails, footsteps leading into the back of the sheriff's home and...
in the current day, they keep a pack of sour candy in their pockets to help satiate their... hunger. after a surprise takedown and a lemon in their throat, they try REALLY hard not to slip up again as their guts twist at the sight of blood and flesh. (really bad days force them to wear a face mask to hide their torn mouth scars)
many of their coworkers don't like working with them for some reason... something along the lines of "they seem suspicious..." "their mouth's too big!" "have you seen how pointy they are?!" "they keep staring at me..." either way, they're not really popular with others, preferring to isolate and mingle with just a few.
it's gotten to the point where sometimes they're confused for a new hire! then again, it's been a long period between their previous leave and their return to HQ. why they left...? they, don't really want to talk about it. something about work stress culminating into a freak accident at the office, a dozen injured & one dead, and a forced year long mental leave compromised from being fired permanently. they're doing better though! they think. (totally not me forgetting about the intro bit about them being a new hire ahaha, awkward...)
has repeatedly refused medbay scans time and time again, it's unknown why they refused to be scanned, could it be they don't trust the doctors? are they weary of their biological data being taken by the higher-ups? are they... harboring a parasite slowly mutating them into a horrifying monster? Who knows...
Guard/#9B8DD8/Peri Winkle
mostly accurate with color adjusting for the back and additional colors to help flesh out the fit, had to take VERY creative liberties with the badge and hat however... please do not look at the hat from any other angle then the front š
absolutely loves beans, COFFEE beans. they make the most coveted substance of all galaxies... that dark roasted, shade grown perfection that is... 20oz cup of glory.
a direct neural scan of operator's memories and (repressed) emotions generated as part of the initiation process. a long process short; they are what operator could have been had they've never been traumatized and reached their dreams, the "idealized what if" to their "current reality"
they've never existed before operator began testing, so technically they're the "youngest" (they and operator share the same mental age though, as well as likes, dislikes, and Fears)
they are the estranged spawn of Admin Roseus, initially created as an unnamed clone incase they died, but diverged in personality the moment their "mother" (read: spouse of Admin) was killed by An Impostor Hive BIG WORM... here they keep their openly bold outlook from before the Hive could take them in
in the rare event that they HAVE to be called something besides their passionate profession, they prefer to just be called "Peri" as they view their last name to be "too silly to be taken seriously" (and do NOT bring up their hex name. AT all. it's dead for a reason.)
they're never seen without their purple gloves (which happen to look like their suit color) off. main reasons citing to keep their hands clean incase they have to come in contact with corpses during a murder case or two. they also have several spares in their belt incase their usual pair get shredded/stained beyond repair or if other crewmates need to get their hands dirty as well.
they're also good at hiding things. lots of things. and this isn't just about the gloves... asides from that, being intimately aware of how secrets form gives them the home advantage of knowing when people lie and snapping them back to reality.
due to their unique position as the simulation avatar, they do NOT have any trace of independent AI that automatically runs life simulations, instead they are filled in by whoever is wearing the headset. this means that if they are left idle and alone in a room long enough, they'll eventually cease replicating a living being and freeze in place like a metal crate. this can terrify any holoforms crewmates that come across them in this state and confuse them for a statue, or worse, dead. best disconnect and power off inside a secluded area (like the cam room) so that nothing goes wrong.
are they a living being? are they just a vessel? do they have a mind of their own, or is it the result of a million neurons plucked like strings to a harpsong? they are... alive to a degree, but in the subconscious way, like another angle to a problem, a microphone to that inner volition, but how much is which is still in the air... after all, matey DID say that "Sometimes Guard says things!"
Management/"Mod"/Dr. Eliza Grey
LOTS of liberties taken and they're not even close to accurate! i REALLY need to make a do over but not rn. good lord they were the hardest to make, and they look sooo wrong but this is the closest i can get. due to accessory constraints, their backpack instead matches their glasses, but this is NOT canon! expect a rework at some point!
a certified MIRA HQā¢ļø researcher (and psychiatric) from Research & Development, they serve as the semi-independent lead for the upcoming designed to help transition unpaid interns and workers into competent employees that can not only get the job done, but NOT die in the process! current processions dictate that the project is currently in "beta testing" (that being; only selected individuals observed to be "interesting" or "exceptional" are enrolled to test if virtual reality is safe enough to implement into the workplace
for even more proof that they are a tech wizard, look no further then matey (the virtual assistant). with meager funding and a lot of head scratching, pen bitting, glasses pushing, finger tapping later, they've also managed to create the first "general" AI in circulation (there were others before, but they were canceled private projects)... they are about as smart as your average GPT bot
a heavy stickler for MIRA policy, "don't let emotions drive you, let the grind hit the wheel, and never look the other way" ...or something similar, one does NOT get this high of a position without bending over and kissing the shoes of the CEOs. despite that, there have been several times that management was a hypocrite... for example-
management kept the first successful copy they've constructed in a specialized robotic shell (a silver whale/seal build) to remind themself of how far they've pushed developmental technology, the First artificial lifeform... since then, they've pushed the latest updates from other technicians working on the AI into this particular model of theirs... they may or may not have developed an attachment to it similar to a pet and its owner, but they insist it's just an assistant they use daily, they TALK to crewmates, and they are DEFINITELY not lonely
"eliza" is a VERY uncommon name in a society where color names are the regular. usually these kind of "unique" names are reserved for the upmost important figures of history, or as the current rich% calls... "any famous person born into a very wealthy home." in their case, they're part of a lineage of tech industry's most prodigious inventors ever, spanning through the equivalent of alan turing and albert einstein... they've got quite the big shoes to fill.
not much else is known about management, after all, what they do is ultimately just a full time job to pay whatever the bean rent costs each month, no need to get personal, and no need to get close to anyone. no need for friends when coworkers do just the same, if not better because they don't have to think about friendships...
on the other hand, that ONE tester they've JUST met keeps making things so unprofessional... and yet they've made them laugh harder than they've ever felt in their cycled life, is that so bad? maybe they can just sleep it off and let those thoughts air out... surely.
PART TWO
LONG TIME COMING.... I OUTTA THANK A CERTAIN CAPTAIN FAN FOR MAKING ME FINALLY FINISH THIS...
anyways!! HERE IT FINALLY IS!!
Scientist
additional vines on their arms! a little more color on their otherwise plain coat! (i like it) nothing else special to note of, other then the striped shirt + tshirt tie throwing me off immensely, as i had to attach some pants that extended into the legs, which i had to cover up with a waist coat accessory, it works though! (unrelated, but they've got the 2nd most color different pack, there were no browns)
speaking of arm vines, they're either; a regular crewmate with living plants rooted into their suit, an intelligent plant hybrid holding together hardened clumps of dirt into a crewmate shape, or a rusty old android with stray vines peeking through their panels. which origin they are is randomly selected, and if the simulation becomes especially buggy, they might not even stay the same during a session!
in addition to being a scientist, they are also a botanist (if it isn't already obvious)! they would have loved MIRA HQ's greenhouse area... and they would be an absolute nerd about the plants grown there, maybe they were based off a gardener from there?
they try to take great care of making sure experiments requested by [REDACTED] are completed, but they've a couple of more active plants that sometimes thrash their vines if they don't get their nutrients on time, often spilling vials and books on the floor, bratty one can say! no one in the ship believes this though, and just assume scientist is a klutz...
as a simulated crewmate, they go through the motions, but at times they might display unintended behavrior. in scientist's case, their navigation system sometimes clips right into hallway corners and without intervention, can lead to them noclipping the walls to finish their path and walk out of bounds, potentially sequence breaking cutscene scripts by going places where they should NOT be in... like right outside the ship windows.
Captain
lowkey struggled to put their suit together... like it was VERY hard to find a yellow and gold suit shirt that wasn't a gaudy mess, and the one i DID find extended down to the bottom waist, not like that's noticeable since with the power of accessory adjusting, i can easily twist the details of the coat such that it all still lines up! in addition to their (rather small) badge and belt, they ALSO have a a couple accessories pertaining to the other members of the ship they're close with, as well as a certain captain's manual... more on those in the next point.
avid cat lover, those motivation posters they hang up are clear evidence of this! they wanted to bring their pet along the ship, but they were promptly shut down. :( doesn't stop them from plastering as many cat images as possible!
the hallways? posters on the walls. cafeteria? sticky note kitties on the fridge. medbay? sponsored cat figurines. laboratory? catnip and cattails. reactor? flooding the cabinets from engineer taking them down. :( security room? one (1) cat photo on the corkboard. navigation? cat bobblehead. the admin room? no inches spared, it's ALL cats from posters to printed photos.
slightly more competent then other captains, which isn't saying much! they're a bit of a coward, but it's no biggie! they can handle ANY situation! even the terrifying ones, especially murder cases... definitely murder cases, and impostors, that too... they're NOT scared... they just want to take things the "sneaky" way! or the "non-confrontal" way! just don't take it head on...!
carries around the captain's manual... that they wrote themself! they are the author! despite their rather loose logic, they were the ONLY one during training who even bothered taking notes, which has then been co-optes by MIRA corp as part of their basic training curriculum (without credit!) it even has THEIR face on the cover, as if they were just some MASCOT! i wonder if they'll ever sue for infringement...
Doctor
almost too easy! like they were so quick to make i wasn't even paying attention- to make up for this, i spent a good amount of time decorating the hell out of their coat and bandana, as they don't seem like the kind of person to just be okay normality, like put a little spice on it yknow yknow? more info on the pins in the next point!
they like to dance! they like to BALL! they know a LOT of dance moves to show off on the floor! if they would, and if they COULD, they would breakdance all the time in Medbay... someone send them to a club RIGHT now.
they are a BIG fan of modifying boring things! they even bought a LOT of pins and stickers in order to make their uniform LESS boring for stream! (unprofessional their ass, they can GAME!)
they/them pronouns pin even though it's the norm, they found out what nonbinary is from digging into ancient alien internet history... which MAY OR MAY NOT BE HUMANS...
big fan of aliens by the way. there have been SEVERAL streams dedicated to playing space fantasy games and exploring space while shooting down hostile extraterrestrial forces... pretty similar to their work place actually...
speaking of game... besides cook, THEY are one of the first AIs that would become self aware if given the chance, and if they DO? be ready for hell.
noclipping? they're clipping their board through one of the wheeling beds to make it a makeshift go cart via collision pushback. going out of bounds? they're gonna steal an object and "pet" it until their walking animation BREAKS the wall boundaries. infinite speed? somehow, some fucking how... they're editing their OWN speed parameters to outrun EVERYONE. they are a GAMING nerd and IT SHOWS.
AND! if they are AWARE they are in a DIFFERENT game, they will switch out their pins to match the game accordingly! they're wearing a roblox noob sticker here for this reason... hehe.
it's unknown whether they actually LIKE their job or not... only Doctor knows. (and they keep a LOT of secrets about themself TO themself.... Guard HATES this...)
they gave captain a LOT of cat pins. they know captain LOVES cats, and doctor LOVES the memes that come from them! they regularly wear at least one cat meme!
Engineer
canonical amount of fuzz for their lovely sweater and added tool belt full of screws, wrenches, hammers, and whatever else they need to maintain machinery. there's also a place for their rag incase some certain crewmate ends up spilling their dark roasted shade grown coffee on their panels. even after several washes in the laundry, the coffee stains will NOT go away! (it's baked into the texture model, don't tell them this.)
not only do they have squish bone syndrome, they're REALLY short and stout for their stature! if amongi beans had varying heights, they would be one of the shortest in the crew!
they used to work with lime before they went off the deep end! they ALSO have issues with how the company runs business in their ship... but isn't as vocal about it. they WOULD still argue and complain about it if given the space to do so.
absolutely HATES having to clean up after others! THOSE STAINS TAKE FOREVER TO UNCLOG!! AND GUARD! STOP SPILLING YOUR CUP OVER THE REACTOR! GETTING SICK OF THIS!!
likes to make sure everything's still running! they regularly check about every two hours to make sure the lights are on, vents are running, stove has gas, fridge is cooling, scanner is.. working... they SCOLD Doctor for leaving it unplugged every time they visit them for their foot infection...
speaking of... that. it's the result of them not being able to afford replacement shoes. they have a noticable gait to their walk because their foot still actively aches every time they rest it wrong. (doctor has yet to figure out how to fix it, and they are NOT risking getting banned for streaming a Foot Fungus stream...)
their sweater is fuzzy from all the built up electricity they work around with! if you touch it, you WILL get static shock! (guard knows this especially...)
they like to imagine the coils of the reactor as sea eals! electric eals living inside the machine of the reactor, ain't that so sweet? if only they could sneak in their pet fish on board... but unfortunately, there's no space where they can safely hide poor little Finzel...
they always second guess things. especially if there's NO one else that disagrees with a majority vote... they would think it's suspicious that EVERYONE agrees, they KNOW that opinions exist! this is why they ultimately helped guard prove their innocence... they didn't like the fact the rest of the crew just IMMEDIATELY turned on one of their own members.
Cook
very cute and simple! deliberately decided to use an orange pack to purposely replicate the shading pattern found in the og source material (the others were from getting close to the colors.) added a little orange blush undeir visor as well as a pocket for their pet ratmate! (well it can hold something else, but let's not talk about that right now, alright?)
slouches a lot, they try not to do this when others are around, but during closing shifts at "nighttime" (mandatory sleep break) you'll find them slouched over the sink full of dishes from dinner's meal. everyone's asleep at this point*, so they're the only person who cleans the tableware.
has a ton of back problems, their joints audibly cracks if they bend too fast! (and not the pleasant kind) the fact they've worked with chronic pain for this long is pretty astounding, but considering MIRA's rather... obtuse way of letting workers go, it's... unsurprising. due to this, they visit doctor a lot and often get supplied painkillers to help dull out the aches.
of all the crewmembers of the ship, they're pretty open about their feelings! they don't really have any other reason to lie, so why should they? they're also pretty privvy on how others are feeling, even if they put up a front about it! if they sense a friend of theirs is going through something, they'll try to convince them to visit the back of their kitchen in front of the freezer door to see what's wrong...
...and they're not stupid. in the back of their mind, they're openly aware about the fact that the ship they're in is not real. they've tried several times to break the 4th wall to see if the eyes on the other side can speak back, and then they suddenly blackout into yesterday where it never happened! they tried to convince the other crewmates that there's another world beyond the stars, friends they can talk to, get answers from even! but all of them don't even acknowledge the shattering truth. not even guard...
guard... something's... different about them, no? when they all boarded this ship together, guard was dead silent during introductions, and only stated their job description when asked. "wasn't the talkative type" they thought, until they looked closer. all their memories of guard had them standing still, too still, and that time where they held hands behind the counter that night, they didn't even have a pulse...
even as they share the same response of denial as the others, they couldn't help but wonder if guard was just an attempt by MIRA in replicating artificial crewmates to fill in the gaps, and there... they see it. the look in their eyes behind the reflection, they're... genuine, more genuine then anyone else, even themself! the way they stand, the way they move, speak, express themself... alive, they're... alive!
it's been SO long since a new player has joined the game, and now's their chance to greet and welcome them into their place! they were meant for this, meant to serve as the mentor to new and returning workers... scientist, engineer, doctor, captain, they were ALL real people that they've taught and guided, and now it's guard's turn! it may be the last day they have before they permanently retire, but even before guard became the new host, they've always seen a good heart in that walled off surface.
...oh. guess it was literal. that's... that's fine! they can shrug off the pulsing pain in their gut! it's.. it's not like it will hurt any more then it did while they were awake! and wait, are those... wings? so that's why their shoulders were screaming! at least.. at least it will make their job, their REAL job, a lot easier now, to watch over the rest of the ship...
