How it actually works:

Staging an epic final confrontation over the discs would work.) >>>> Need to get the discs for the confrontation. (Buying the disc off of Skeppy is easy but Tubbo is loyal to Tommy and wouldn’t just hand it over.) >>>>> Need to sabotage Tubbo’s loyalty to Tommy. (He wants L’manburg to be peaceful. I could present myself as an ally to his goal and Tommy as an obstacle.) >>>>>> Need to mess up their communication so they won’t just make up (Exiling Tommy would leave him far away, but won’t guarantee success. Listen, how many bad guys say that shit but really mean it as MY end is justified by YOUR means. Like, everyone else suffers for my good ending but I personally don't sacrifice shit.

C!dream saw that and went "how about no" and he's ruthless to everybody INCLUDING HIMSELF. In fact, I think he's even harsher to himself, because he is able to (or thinks that) he can control himself and his environment, so if he can control that then he can survive anything. His perfect ending is worth him getting fucked over, double killed, and imprisoned in isolation. That's just what he planned before, but even the DAILY TORTURE that was unplanned is framed by him as something that is worth it for the plan to go forward.
