I was late to DC media in general, but Superman has to be one of the most special characters/morals I think anyone could really ask for in fiction.
It's all about receiving the short end of the stick and then using it to help other people up, turning what felt like a bad thing into a good thing.
It's about being soft in a world that's sharp and discourages us from being that way, showing others that keeping that softness goes a long way and really means a lot.
It's being happy after waking up one morning thinking no one was on your side, feeling like the whole world was stacked against you.
It's about feeling okay after you thought the world was ending, even being able to smile. :)
It's about being kind and gentle when many people try to tell you "that's not man enough".
It's about finding it in yourself to stand against harm without matching it with your own spite and hatefulness.
It's all super, and it's beautiful.
There are always good things and people out there, I promise.
Um, um, um, um, um.
So, I guess these are a couple behind-the-scenes shots of David in Superman, presumably gearing up as Ultraman, given the long hair.
KBEBKABKKABKBAKAKBAOHKAHA
[Anxious muttering. Starts sweating like crazy and inevitably passes out.]
[thud]
He looks like this dog and I think that's adorable.
Another scene that struck me with similarities to neurodiversity is the interview scene. You know the one. But actually, moreso a detail leading UP to that, haha.
So, an interesting thing I noticed is their fundamentally different viewpoints on things, like what is and isn't okay in the face of doing something "good" or nice. This brings to mind how my parents (both neurodivergent) have interacted and misunderstood things with one another and neurotypical people. I don't think that Clark ever tries to do any wrongβ He's a hero, he's trying his best, he's fucking up because he doesn't consider certain things while he's getting a good task done. He isn't doing these good things in a way that is expected, so he faces backlash. He doesn't understand this because he has done a good thing without causing horrible harm to anyone (besides the cactus thing, but even that was kind, knowing how Vasil was sending armed soldiers and war machines over to invade another country), so what does it matter HOW he did that thing? They're not seeing eye-to-eye on this, because they have completely different ways of thinking about it. Clark stopped a war. That's a good thing. He sees it as a good thing and understands it as a good thing. That is a good thing. But Lois starts painting it like he did something really wrong because he didn't do this GOOD THING in a way that was expected or "right" so it isn't appreciated and it is questioned instead, which hurts his feelings because he knows he's done something good. He's endedβor at least haltedβan ongoing invasion and genocide. He's saved many lives just by flying over and destroying heavy war machinary and trying to scare a mass murderer into his place. But that is questioned as well. He didn't do it perfectly or as expected and she's really hammering into that, and he can't see where she's coming from because... He's saved so many people by doing that alone! What's it matter his method if it got the job done?
Now that I've quit regurgitating their conversation in the way I perceived it, all of that kind of leads up to the little detail that kind of amuses me. Clark seemingly broke into her apartment, lol. I mean, if she knew he was there, or if she'd given him a key, she probably wouldn't have been so confused about someone's presence in her house that she would grab a bat right before seeing them. She had no idea he was there! I would guess that he went into her home without asking because he wanted to surprise her with a sweet evening where he cooks their favorite meal. He's not doing anything harmful and he's aware of that, but it's another thing that initially goes unexpected with Lois.
I think that boundaries/rules can be a little hard for us to understand when they aren't directly established with us. This is why talking in a direct and verbal way is so important, as we do our best to be kind and respectful. Some rules slip by us and are the catalyst to our surprising actions. We sometimes do unconventional things when we are aware we're not doing anything malicious or mean, but this isn't always understood by the other party, or at least not immediately.
I speak from a familial experience and do not want to push the idea that this is how all neurodivergent people think or act. This is just how I see these scenes, and my thoughts are based on the behaviors I am surrounded by in real life.

I'm tickled over all the different autistic traits in this movie. Part 1/?
Of course, that's not to say all the characters are autistic or anything. It's not really something I am trying to romanticize, but moreso a way to signal some Superman fans who might like seeing themselves in film like I do. Well, uh, I guess this is the part where I start explaining, Here goes, hah.
Probably the most spoken about, in this regard: The high sense of empathy displayed by Superman. Not only is he highly empathetic, but incredibly thoughtful/observant, staying careful when he recognizes the destruction the Kaiju is causing, flying incredibly high into the sky, not to get away from the monster, but to get its fire breath and path of destruction away from any remaining citizens and buildings. He is trying to balance a way to keep this creature from causing as little damage to the city as possible without just killing it. This aversion to murdering it is spurred on by his empathy. This is shown again later when he is talking about wanting to find Krypto because he is "alone and probably scared," and also when the late Mali is killed in cold blood by Lex Luthor. Mali was not close to him, nor was the Kaiju, or the squirrel, and he literally expresses that he does not find Krypto to be a very good dog, but he cares very deeply about all these things/people and their lives.
2. On the contrary, incredibly aloof and dry Mr. Terrific. Having a flat delivery of tone can also be an autistic trait, and ironically, so can a LACK of empathy, which he is shown to have when bombing the kaiju's stomach with zero hesitation. He is not heartless, but certainly not as empathetic, as he doesn't seem to care about sparing his opponents of pain. He is also completely uninterested when Lois is talking about her relationship struggles, and totally upfront about that. He simply does not care, he's just trying to go and save Clark, a fellow hero. It's the task he is focused on and is completely focused on getting done. He does seem to have a strong sense of justice, adamant about helping Clark despite Green Lantern and Hawk Girl's refusal. He is also incredibly literal and honest with what he says, usually a no-nonsense sort of guy. "Your circles or something." "Circles? T-Spheres! Circles are 2-dimensional." He explained something rather obvious that he thought she was lost on, completely literal about it.
3. Rex's bluntness and empathy. Rex also seems to be very upfront with whatever he says, though he doesn't seem as cold about it. I would argue that his lack of filter is not for a matter of not caring about feelings, but simply not seeing any potential problems with what he is saying. "Why are you still gross looking?" After stopping his Kryptonite hand might seem rather rude in any other case, but he seemed so confused about it, like he honestly wanted to know why Clark, covered in blackened veins, skin puffy and splotchy with unhealthy colors, still looked this terrible. It wasn't kind, but it wasn't meant to be insulting either. It was a moment of having no filter. He thought Clark still looked gross despite the thing causing such changes in his appearance having disappeared, so he called it like he saw it. Certain things may be completely regular to Rex that aren't to other people, so he talks about them in a very casual, comfortable way. "I can't make a sun." "I know." "I can only make something kind of like a sun." "What?" when talking to Superman, as well as his genuine response when the Raptors mockingly asked him if he was going to splash them, to which he honestly replies; "Yes, with fluoroantimonic acid." right before covering them all. Rex seems to be empathetic as well, crying over Mali's death despite not even knowing his name. "No, no, no... he just shot that poor guy..."
There were some more vaguely neurodivergent things I caught in this film but I will post about those tomorrow. That's a lot of words to focus on typing.
Brain chemistry successfully altered! Let's talk about punk bands and what music we think they'd like!
Eh, judging by The Mighty Crabjoys, it seems Superman is Punk in the way that Chemtrails and Paramore are punk, like more pop-punk style bands.
I would guess, judging simply by her character rather than any actual mention of what music she's into yet, this Supergirl would be punk in the way that Hole and Slutever are punkβ More gritty and frustrated, which seems like her, from the little things I know about her. Then again, it could just be that I like this music genre and will take any chance to talk about it. David Corenswet dared to utter the words "punk rock" and I completely folded in on myself and had my damn molecules rearranged. I will always think that's the coolest thing. Superman likes a few punk bands!! Ones that don't exist, but three notable punk bands, anyways!!
With this part of his music taste established, I really wonder what else he's into. I wonder if he would like the older stuff like Mission of Burma and Violent Femmes, or maybe more post-punk stuff like Siouxsie and the Banshees or Fontaines D.C.. Play songs for him and see what he thinks. That's another post-punk band, just not a gothic one. Please tell me your favorite punk music! Please tell me what you think he would like! Show me your Clark Kent playlists! Please! Ahhh!!
I watched Superman 2 and noticed this. It's the same outfit. Even down to the top button(s) of the shirt being undone.
Ohhhh, you're a fan of the old ones, aren't ya, Gunn? Me, too.
Man of Beads.
Hi, alien overlords, please watch My Adventures with Superman. Please watch it. Here's a faux review on it.
Please watch it, it's so cute and I want to chew on Clark's arm like some overexcitable puppy dog. I'll have to rewatch it since I had a shit-ton of outside input (stress, yo!) during my first watch through. I liked it a lot. I enjoy how they focus on the relationships between characters as well as the action storyline. It's another treat where we get to see just as much Clark Kent as we do Superman, like Gunn's or even Donner's Supermen. I'm crazy about the ones that focus on BOTH identities, and I think this show gives them both attention really well. This show is kind of Clark Kent coming into his Superman identityβ He starts finding out more of his powers by the first episode, where he is already an adult reporter, and throughout the show we see him tangling with this new identity, powers he's never used much before (it's revealed he learned to fly during childhood, but was something he/his family kept secret), and keeping it a secret.
Even Lois and Jimmy are pretty awesome, too. At first, I didn't like Lois much (I usually don't care for Lois in anything, pft) but I've been rewatching clips from the show and seeing what people have to say and she's just... Flawed. She does things that aren't meant to be likeable, so of course I wouldn't like them. It's just realism, and while she can be irrational, it's been interesting seeing the kind of backstory the show gives her as well. She's insecure, and it's established why. We get to find out about young Lois and her family, giving reason as to why she is the way that she is.
Now, for Jimmy? Jimmy is awesome. He's a precious angel with a great sense of humor. I want a Jimmy in my life, lol. He's one hell of a friend but he's more than just a "best friend" type character. He still very much does his own things even if he's a little clingy, but I like even that detail. I think it builds off of an otherwise demeaning trope and shows that a best friend sort of character can also have a life outside of the main character. He goes through dissatisfaction when Clark and Lois experience chaos within their lives and aren't making as much time for himβ It shows him feeling hurt because of this and trying to handle it in some way, giving him a moment to go off and do his own thing, where he meets a few characters named Brain and Mallah. By season two, he even gets his own love interest!
Clark is also a great main character and I just don't even know where to begin with him. I appreciate how unique his story with his Kryptonian origins is and how that slowly unravels throughout the show as well, but I don't want to say too much... just know it's pretty cool. Season two is probably my favorite so far, for reasons relating to those things as well as the finale's villain.
I love how the characters aren't just stagnant or perfect. Not everything is in place, and some of the relationship stuff is messy, but I think it makes sense for the type of people they all are, and is compellingly realistic. Now, this show is also a little cheesy, and definitely tries to mimic anime in some ways, but it doesn't ruin its own atmosphere or feel too abrupt/goofy for what it is. I don't really like anime (I know, I know, I'm getting thrown in the Phantom Zone for that) but I liked this show a lot. I plan to buy the comics it's based off of since I find these versions of the characters and this universe very charming as a whole.
My biggest complaint out of this entire show? The fight scenes aren't that exciting, from what I remember, but I could absolutely be incorrect even on that.
Watch the show! You can find it on HBO Max (and I think Adult Swim's website)!! Go watch it!!! Tell me what you think!!!!

Do you think he'd listen to PWR BTTM?
Oh, you're such a punk-rocker, darlingβ Prove it to me. Let's listen to little punk duos nobody cares about anymore and tell me what ya think.
We're headed to Illinois right now, you and me! π
"No way! David Corenswet Superman best Superman!" "Nuh uh! Henry Cavill way cooler than that!"
YOU'RE BOTH INCORRECT.
I raise you Christopher Reeve.
I've been seeing clips from DC Superhero Girls. Supes is so moody and cute here.
Not like his usual personality, but I think everyone is a bit eccentric and exaggerated in this show. It's kind of charming. :)
I like the diversion he created to get Green Lantern off his ass. Lol.
Okay, hah, the BTS pictures for this movie are funny as hell.
That's funny alone but it also makes me think of this, which makes me chuckle:

I have sketched some Jimmy and Kara fanart.
They're very charming together.
Ya know, the thought of Clark Kent canonically voice training always tickles me. ββ βΏβ β
I've been watching the Donner Superman movies and I've been loving them to death. They're so darling! And Christopher Reeve knew just what to do with the voice fluctuation between Clark and Superman!
David Corenswet does the same thing and it drives me crazyβ It's such a good detail! And it makes me smile since I do the same thing. Of course, when Clark does it, it's not a trans thing, but I don't really care about the intent, it makes me feel all fuzzy we do something similar so we are perceived differently, no matter our reasoning, hah.
