Slime Volleyball Update
An update I made to the Slime Volleyball sketch was that I added changing colors of the slimes. It was a little hard because when the down arrow is pressed it increase an integer and certain integers were associated with colors, but when it was pressed it would race through the colors. This was because the associated key press was done with Boolean and would continually increase integers. To fix that I had the integers only change slightly when a key was pressed. Another problem that arose was that boolean does work integers so having colors change based on discrete values limited the functions which I could use. Here is the result!

What Is In My Hands?
Check out this weeks episode of What Is In My Hands? It is America's favorite show where everyday Americans are blindfolded and asked to identify objects given to them.

Michael Wesch
I liked Michael Wesch's talk because it addressed how he observes modern anthropology. That is the everyday struggle that people go through to find meaning in life. The way he inspires people to do so by encouraging to develop their own soul by living their daily lives. This is by being an actor in your life and pursue things you think are interesting. In addition, it is to interact those around you who are doing the same. This approach is different to how society normally interacts because it is inherently passive. As Wesch says, we all move boxes to boxes inside boxes. The moment we are conscious and take risks, we live life.
Hood Internet Response
The Hood Internet is a great group and awesome music. I am a big fan of mashups because it allows artist to expand vastly on the type of music that can be created. Personally, I am a fan of old music and love hearing thrown over modern beats. As a straight critique of Hood Internetās music, I think they have way too many songs.Ā Their sound cloud has 535 tracks (some are reposts and shares) which is a a LOT of mashups to do.Ā It seems like they mash any big hit together if it is a similar key and tempo. I donāt think each song is given enough detail given to each song as it deserves.Ā It is probably just my preference that I like micro sampling better because the artist personalizes it much more. However, because they have so many mixes, they can use them well together in a live performance. Ā
As for Hood Internetās live performance, they were lacking enough people to create the atmosphere that suited their music. So much of a live performance is dependent on the atmosphere of the crowd.Ā With triple the amount of crowd, people would have been way more into the music and in turn that would roll off onto them.Ā The Hood Internet did do a very good job at keeping the crowd hype without the atmosphere.Ā Additionally, the venue was far to large for the amount of people there.Ā It would have been great if they played at one of the fraternities instead.Ā The reason not many came to the Hood Internet concert was because no one knew it was coming up.Ā It was the perfect time to have a concert because it was the first Thursday back from four day. There was no talk nor Facebook event beforehand.Ā Had the campus known about it, the venue would have been packed. I would really like to have them come to Whitman again with more people knowing about the concert beforehand.

This a great example of telling a story in the modern age. Ā
Drawing is way harder in processing than in real life. Ā I may animate this later.

Response to Nick Bolton
I don't fully buy Nick Bolton's argument that we all now multi-task. Ā Though we do take tons of information in from different sources, much of it is noise. Ā I think the internet and new forms of media bring a lot to the table, but there is now so much information to take in that is causes overloads. Ā The internet has the ability to compile what we want to know or could want to know. Ā The problem is that everyone uses it as their own soapbox. Ā There are so many people yelling their own opinion, that there is little space to take information in. Ā In addition, the internet lets us fixates on things that we may perceive as news, but really isn't important to our long term happiness. Ā For example, I may be drawn in to watching videos about a local restaurant closing or look at pictures of what my friends did during spring break, but in reality I would much prefer to read an article on sustainability or play with an Autocad program. Ā The desire to multi-task can be crippling at times. Ā When I can properly do it, my creativity is sparked and I learn a lot. Ā Mr. Bolton refers to this with the distracting text message example. Ā If we can pull ourselves away from the distracting buzzing, we can be free to explore the world that is opened to us through technology.
