The Kennyrae Chronicles

The elemental council is the international seat of government that oversees all things elemental and their relationship to the rest of the world. There are representatives from all regions of the world, each chosen by the elementals of their region. They usually are the dominating canine species of that region. For example, representatives from North America are usually wolves, Japanese representatives are usually foxes or kitsunes, and African representatives are usually African Wild Dogs. Primary representatives are usually aether canines, while lesser ambassadors are general elemental canines. These positions are usually designated to air canines for their ability to fly and get to places faster and easier than other elementals.

The headquarters is located in northwest Africa, in the area that some humans theorize to be thr location of the lost city of Atlantis. The base is protected by a magic barrier hiding the inside from human eyes. The main base of operations is underground, but above ground there is beautiful architecture crafted by the elementals. There are elaborate fountains, tall columns and archways, and buildings for various services including blacksmiths, inns, shops, and restaurants. There is also a bunker underground for protection and to hold any refugees.

This is a character sheet template I made for anyone who would like to make a character for my story. You don't have to follow it exactly, these are just some general guidelines. In terms of powers/abilities, those have yet to be determined, so put whatever you want for now. Can't wait to see your awesome characters!

Characters can be canine, feline or human. Extinct and mythical versions accepted. (I.e. sabre cats, kitsunes, etc) Felines rarely have human forms, mostly its just a housecat as their other form. For humans, they're just normal people.

The Regulator (the name will probably change, but this is the best I could come up with for now) is a large magical device. It was created long ago when aether canines were as common as any other elemental. Aether canines are the strongest of all the elementals. They can have control over all the elements, and can even a wield the power of life itself. Many aether canines abused their gifts, using them against their fellow canines in shows of power, treating the other elementals as beneath them, and demanding special privileges. Eventually, a decision was reached within the Council on what to do about these corrupt canines and how to prevent the problem from continuing.

They created the Regulator. A magical device designed as a means of population control. It controls the number of aether wolves born at any given time. Under its current settings, only two aether canines are allowed to be born per region every 500 years, the average lifespan for an aether canine. If it senses that an aether canine is conceived, it removes the pup's powers and reassigns them a single element while the pup is still in its mother's womb.

The Council hid the device in a secret location, only known to its highest ranking members.

This is just a basic character list with short descriptions of who they are.

Verona Kennyrae: Protagonist. Aether Wolf. She's strong-willed and stubborn. Her preferred human appearance is a teenage girl with white long hair, fair skin, and blue eyes. She doesn't know how to human.

Mark Moore: Veronna's human cousin. He's 17 and a senior in high school. He enjoys hunting and playing video games. He's basically an average teenage guy. Even though their cousins, he cares about Veronna as if she was his little sister.

Jeremy Moore: Veronna's human uncle and Mark's dad. He's a family man and veterinarian that's a fan of dad jokes. He was confused with the whole "magic dog thing," as he calls it, but he eventually just accepted it.

Paula Moore: Mark's mom. She's your classic soccer mom. She's a Christian so the wolf thing appalled her, but she's learned to deal with it and is slowly starting to accept it.

Alice Campbell: Mark's friend. "Rescues" a stray that turns out to be a disguised panther who steals her mom's soul and tries to kill her and her friends when Veronna shows up. You can say she's made some mistakes.

Mark's Friend #2: Character I don't really care what they look like or what their personality is. May eventually join the traveling party when that part happens. If you have an OC you think could fill this slot, let me know and I might add them to the story :3

Tahlan Demir: Tiger. Has the bad boy persona. Nonchalant and is searching for the clan of Corinth to join because "it seems cool and badass." Somehow ends up joining Veronna. He enjoys making fun of her and just annoying her in general.

Species: Aether Wolf

Basic Physical Description: As a wolf, she has light gray/white fur and blue eyes. As a human, her common appearance is a young woman who looks to be in her late teens-early 20′s with long white hair and blue eyes. She usually wears loose fitting clothing in natural colors.

Personality: She is strong-willed and loyal to her family. Since the attack on her village, she has become very wary and mistrustful of strangers. She is determined to rescue her missing family and avenge those she lost on that day. Though she tries to be patient with others, she will occasionally snap and yell in frustration if she is pushed beyond her limit. When she is angry, it is harder for her to maintain her human form and keep her powers in check.

The elemental powers of canines begin to manifest anywhere from 6 months to a year. Whenever young canines reach 6 months of age, they are tested to see what their main element is by performing four simple tests. Each canine starts out with one of the four primary elements - earth, air, water, and fire. The test the pup passes shows what element they’ve been gifted with. It is common for a canine to pass one of the tests, uncommon for one to pass none or two, and extremely rare for one to pass all four.

The fire test is conjuring up a small flame in their paws. The earth test is moving a small rock without touching it. The water test is lifting a small ball of water from a river or lake. The air test is making an object levitate.

Canines who fail all four tests are deemed kirottu. They are allowed one more chance to pass when they reach 1 year of age, but after that they are either banished from their group or put at the bottom of the social hierarchy, even lower than an omega.

When I was first coming up with a prophecy for this, I asked around in the amino communities I’m a part of for help. This is a modified version of the prophecy that Lewis Brunt on the Books & Writing Amino wrote for me. :) It’s still a work in progress, but I think this is good for now.

Five hundred blossoms trampled into mud,

Six thousand moons must wane,

A chance for tyranny at last to fade,

Not all canines are blessed with the gift of nature. They are given the title Kirottu, or “cursed one.” For canines that live in packs, the rules differ from species to species on what is done with kirottu. Some are allowed to remain in the pack, just at the bottom of the hierarchy. Others are expelled from the pack and forced to fend for themselves. In these cases, kirottu packs tend to spring up, formed solely out of the outcast kirottu. If multiple canine species live in certain regions, these packs are sometimes mutlspecies.

Though extremely rare, canine-human relationships do still occur. While the majority of humans are oblivious to this topic, it is generally looked down upon in the canine community. If a relationship does occur between a canine and a human, the human is usually given the option to perform a ritual to become a canine themselves. It is very dangerous and potentially lethal for the human, but if they accept the ritual and survive, they are welcomed into the canine community. 

This series starts in a modern everyday setting with hidden fantasy elements underneath. Here is how the Great War (original title I know xP) started.

When the first mammals were roaming around, the two main gods of the world, Ákos of the light and Kali of the darkness, decided to bestow a gift on two predators of their choosing, the canines and felines. Each god offered a single gift, one for each of the predators. Akos offered the gift of control over nature. Whoever received this gift would be able to control nature and the elements. Kali offered the gift of control over others. Whoever received this gift would grow strong and powerful with the ability to control the minds of lesser beings to do their bidding. The canines chose to accept Akos’ gift, and the felines chose Kali’s gift.

When the first humans emerged and began developing, the canines and felines discovered they both had some influence of these new creatures. They could change and erase memories, as well as take on human form by stealing the souls of humans. The soulless bodies would then turn into mindless slaves obedient to who was in possession of their soul. Possessing human souls also allowed the user to live longer, with the souls acting as an “extra life” in a way. The canines saw these humans as creatures who needed to be cared for and protected, while the felines saw them as a food source and free labor. This is how the Great War began. The canines fought to defend themselves and the humans they decided to protect, and the felines fought for total control over all creatures in this world, sometimes creating mass armies of soulless humans.

This is a blog that focuses on my trilogy I’m writing called The Kennyrae Chronicles. I’m still very far from being done, but I’m going to use this to post various bits of writing from the books, story ideas, character profiles, and lore from the series.
