“Ren!” She hopped up on her toes, having spotted the other in the small crowd coming out of one of the rides. She waved at her to catch her eye, pushing through a couple that rudely stepped in front of her, ignoring their indignant remarks as she practically skipped over to Ren. “I got 20 bucks and my eye on a the Giant Panda, wanna help?”
Romy had been hoping to ride the carousel at least, she was depressingly bored and wanted to amuse herself by flinging bits of popcorn at passersby while she was spinning on the tiger, but the line was far too long for her attention span. She’d decided instead to find a different ride, snaking through the crowd, managing to snag a wallet or two to add some bills to her growing roll, dropping the couple of empty wallets in her wake. She only stopped when she saw the short ride for the slingshot, bright smile on her lips when in the same moment she spotted Leo walking by. “C’mon, you’re riding this with me,” her hand reached out for his, tugging him along towards the end of the line.
She was sat atop an empty booth counter with a small stack of fives and ones, sign beside her stating that whoever was working it was on a twenty minute break. Romy’d been counting it up until a family walking up to her and asking if the booth was open made her lose count. With an annoyed groan she’d sent them off, stuffing the money in the pocket of her hoodie and hopping off the counter only to run into another person. The force of it nearly knocked her back, angered quip already on the tip of her tongue until she spotted Felix looking less than pleased. “What’s up with you? romy grew up in the small little town known as Las Vegas, NV, living with her mom in a trailer, though mostly with whatever baby sitter her mom managed to trick into watching her for days/weeks at a time when she ran off with whatever man she was infatuated with for the month
sometimes the babysitters stuck, when she got older they tended to bail, so she was pretty much a latchkey kid, learning to take care of herself with little help from outside sources
her mom is more of her friend than anything and left her to her own devices even more when she was old enough to make her own money and pay her own bills. in fact, she hasn’t actually seen her in a while, their only communication being her sending Romy postcards from whatever state she happens to be in at the time and a text that she’d ordered a custom cake at Walmart for her when she got into gifford
speaking of gifford, she got in with a scholarship. surprising for most since romy doesn’t tend to come off as someone who would have the gpa to get an academic scholarship, considering she regularly ditched class to go smoke with the burnouts behind the church across the street. still, she was a good test taker, and she always managed to catch up on missing work, so she was granted the scholarship.

as soon as she realized this she packed up and left back to vermont, but not before his wife could guilt the shit out of her for ‘abandoning’ her father. she spent a week in vegas with her best friend, holed up in her apt on her bed before coming back. her recent lull is due to a rather crippling depressive episode so she’s mostly been holed up in her room, faking illness for the most part and only going out when absolutely necessary. she’s not feeling better but her best friend has been in contact with her, slowly coaxing her back to at least a functioning level, and romy is letting her dependency on drugs and alcohol do the rest
