Genre 7: myth, legend, tall tale Partner: Celia Oleshansky We choose to do a myth to reflect from the reading because it is a creative way to show our knowledge and previous learning from the book. We used things that we learned from the reading and incorporated them in a creative way. For example, in the reading Bruiser was born with being able to take away his loved ones pain. However, in our myth we decided to come up with a unique way like having a witch cast a spell on Bruiser to be able to take away Brontes pain. Also, in the reading the quote, "guard your heart," really touched us and was important in the book. This shows out of the box thinking because instead of just going along with how the book told the story, we gave it a twist and recreated the story in a completely different way. It also shows critical thinking because it really required us to go deep and use our imagination to re-tell the story.

For genre 6, we choose to make a snap guide on how to fight. In this reading, Tennyson and Ozzy get into a fight together outside because Ozzy was teasing Bruiser. We thought it would be a fun idea to make a how to fight snap guide because everyone should know self defense. Knowing how to fight is crucial because it is an act of self defense, so if you don’t know how to fight, this guide will show you how. It is important to be able to defend your self in case of emergency. This snap guide shows you the weaknesses of your opponent and how to make them vulnerable. This shows out of the box thinking because instead of making a guide on how to break someone’s nose, we thought how to fight would be more useful and beneficial because it gives you a bigger variety. Also, it shows out of the box thinking because we pretended as if we were in Tennyson and Ozzy’s perspective. The element of surprise can give you an advantage against your opponent. Knowing your opponents weaknesses is key to winning the fight.

Genre 5: commercial Partner: Celia Oleshansky For Genre number five we decided to do a commercial for insurance. We chose to do funeral insurance because in this reading uncle Hoyt dies. The kids were asked, what they would do if their arch-nemesis was dying, and their answers got very creative. They mostly thought of more unique and different ways to kill him. However, the girl chose a humiliation tactic instead. This shows out of the box thinking because Hoyt was in a sense Brewster's arch-nemesis. He gave Brew an odd combination of cruelty and love. Being awful to him but protecting others from doing the same. Brewster decided to let nature take its curse with his arch-nemesis and give him a taste of his own medicine. Overall, our DIEco insurance company helps cover the cost of your arch-nemesis's funeral, and has an awesome logo. We hope you chose DIEco for your next funeral.

For our third genre we decided to make a Facebook page for Tennyson. We picked Tennyson because he is a really complex character. He is quick to judge but also quick to forgive, and we thought that his Facebook statuses would reflect that. We also included a new relationship status that shows how his family got broken up and how it affected him. We think that Tennyson would be the type of person to post a lot about his feelings, but also post funny things that would show his goofy side. One post that we out up to show Tennyson’s more goofy and cocky side was a quote by Alfred Tennyson “By blood a king, in heart a clown” we thought that this quote fit Tennyson perfectly and that he would have liked that quote himself. This page shows out of the box thinking because we tried to show Tennyson’s real feelings and his usual mood swings. We tried to portray a more sensitive side to Tennyson that is only shown when he is with Brewster or Brontë. Tennyson is a great character and hopefully this page does him justice!

Genre 3: Obituary Partner: Celia Oleshansky We choose to make an obituary for Uncle Hoyt because he was a terrible guardian for Bruiser and Cody, so it would've been better if he was dead. He was irresponsible, selfish, and an overall bad person. This obituary connects to the current reading because Bruiser refereed to his uncle as his rent. Which means that the only way they can live with him, is if he takes away his pain. This also connects to the reading because Uncle Hoyt would always tell them that if they didn't listen to what he said, they would suffer a punishment. We are trying to reveal that if Uncle Hoyt passed away, it wouldn't really cause any effect to anyone, since he was such a horrible person. Uncle Hoyt was a brutal and mean man, who would never care about other people's feelings and only about himself. This demonstrates out of the box thinking because we pretended as if we were in Brewster and Cody's perspective and how they would have felt. We also showed in depth thinking by revealing our thoughts and understanding on the reading, by incorporating it into our obituary. Without Uncle Hoyt they would be able to have social lives, do things for fun, and become their own people. If Hoyt died they would have felt some pain because he is their flesh and blood, but overall they would be happy and probably feel very free.

Genre 2: CD cover with playlists Partner: Celia Oleshansky Playlist: Cold Shoulder, Adele Rumor Has It, Adele Love is a Losing Game, Amy Winehouse I Never Loved a Man (The Way I Love You), Aretha Franklin Girlfriend, Avril Lavigne Wouldn't It Be Nice, Beatles I Want to Hold Your Hand, Beatles Help!, Beatles Meet Me Halfway, Black Eyed Peas The New Girl in Town, Hairspray Soundtrack to the Motion Picture Bruises, Chairlift Real Slim Shady, Eminem For our second genre my partner and I chose to do the CD cover and playlist. We thought it would be perfect for Brontë because in every chapter you get to see a different side of her personality. On the CD cover you see all of the chapter titles creating a blue boundary and then a red frame made out of important words throughout this weeks reading. These words and chapter titles really shaped Brontë's character and we felt it was important to show them, especially the ones like Allen Ginsberg because he was the force that brought Brontë and Brewster together. Some of the songs that we felt really showed out of the box thinking were, The Real Slim Shady, I Never Loved a Man, and Love is a Losing Game. In The Real Slim Shady Eminem asks for the real Slim Shady to please stand up, this is like Brontë asking for the real Brewster to break out of his shell. All she wants is to know the real him, and she is trying to get him to break out of his shell. Brontë wants the real Brewster Rawlins to please stand up. Throughout our reading we saw Brontë develop feelings for Brewster, not schoolgirl feelings, but real deep ones. She finally starts to realize what it means to truly care for someone and at first is a little surprised, but she realizes that while its new its great. She never loved a man the way she loves Brewster. The song love is a losing game is perfect for this reading. As soon as Brewster decides to let the Sternberger twins into his life wired things happen. As soon as he cares about them their pain becomes his, like the knuckles or sprained ankle. His love is costing him and it can only get worse before it gets better. Another instance in which you see this is between Brontë's parents. When her dad cheats on her mom, her mom dies inside and loses the game, but she keeps playing, the revenge card. Ultimately both parents lost the game because, when their love started to fizzle they cheated. Winners never cheat and cheaters never win. Although her parents love each other, their mistakes were to big to forget and eventually the bomb detonated. Overall this reading was full of ups and downs, and wouldn't it be nice if things just went according to plan?

Genre 1: Recipe Partner: Celia Oleshansky We choose to make a recipe book for genre one because in the chapter Symbiosis, Bronte has a high carb diet and her father has a low carb diet. This shows that they have a symbiotic relationship that is evolved around each other. Bronte's Tex Mex Calzones recipe consists of 30 grams of carbohydrates and her fathers Chicken Marsala recipe consists of 3 grams of carbohydrates. We are trying to reveal that Bronte and her father may eat completely opposite types of food, but still share a beneficial relationship with each other. This shows out of the box thinking because the symbiotic relationship seems to come thoughtlessly with each other. They don't need to communicate at all for the relationship to take place. This also reveals that Bronte and her father don't share such a close bond as a family as they used too. Even though they are distant, they are still a family and will always love one another.
