Ok so with Chapter five having come out and us having learned all the crazy lore and bs that's going on
especially with the weird route shit yk with "insert side b"
has led people to make theories about there being a third route, a "side c", and that route would be the sword route
Now, I'm not really gonna go into them, I personally believe that these theories are too specific and not character-focused enough to be fully plausable (especially with the noticable regression back to ch 1 "kris murders everyone in hometown" speculation)
But I do think there is truth to them
And now I'll give my theory, and since all theories need names, I'll call mine:
Deltarune is supposed to have only one ending, but how can this be the case with two (possibly three) distinct routes?
I used to think this meant all routes will end in failure, that there was no way to prevent the roaring from wiping out all of existence, because otherwise, things would HAVE to be different
Like, if in one route the roaring happened, and in the other it was stopped, then that would be two endings
If in both routes it was stopped by different means, it would still be different endings
So the only consistent ending is failure, right?
But what if that's not what ending was intended to mean?
What if the "ending" isn't just an event, something that will happen regardless of the choices we make ingame
But instead is something to be achieved?
This is what appears after your very first defeat in chapter one. The next screen asks "WILL YOU PERSIST?"
If you choose yes: "THEN, THE FUTURE IS IN YOUR HANDS."
If you choose no: "THEN THE WORLD WAS COVERED IN DARKNESS."
If we take this literally, it appears to mean that if we choose to quit, the game ends here, that we failed, and the roaring comes and swallows everything up.
But if that were true, then it would mean Deltarune has HUNDREDS of potential endings.
And it's also inconsistent with what actually happens, because the save file is still there when we reload the game and we can come back and pick up where we left off and.....
oh shit..................
While we still have access to the game, to the save files, the world of deltarune is stuck in an endless web of fragmented timelines and "routes" and games held in dark stasis as save files sit neglected on a player's computer
what if the only true way to end the game is to transfer the save file back to Kris????
What if the One Ending is something that can only happen when we use our knowledge and resources from different files to change the course of fate in a way the characters couldn't do on our own?
To unite the shattered fragments and fully "Seal" the rift in reality???????
And the other routes are just fragments shrouded in darkness, no different from the "ending" that comes when we quit the game???
I'm kinda yapping and i feel like im losing steam but do y'all get what im saying????????
