drive your plow over the bones of the dead by olga tokarczuk. i cannot recommend it enough, it's the best thing i've read all year. her writing is just stunningly beautiful, the plot is interesting, the characters are great. i have spent weeks looking for more of her work in every bookshop and library i go to

never. bookmarks or remembering what page you're on all the way. when i was little books were really expensive or difficult to get, even from libraries, so i was taught to treat them with respect (especially if they were library books) and even now i physically cannot mark them. i will literally copy entire paragraphs or poems out by hand and annotate that if i have to annotate anything rather than write in a book itself

i think if i'm going in blind, then i am definitely influenced by a good cover and/or title to pick a book up, but if the blurb doesn't sound good, or if there isn't any blurb at all, then i'm equally quick to put a book down. i also really love when bookshops do a little [employee jessica] recommends this book because... note on their displays, because even if i don't like the sound of the book, i like the engagement between staff and customer and product. and sometimes they do have good taste
