â But glitches happen all the time, so wouldnât it be hard to say     that thereâs any set system? I dunno, this glitch weâre looking atâ â      And she points to a literal absence of light existing in a set space      before them, a rigidly set space of darknessâ                      â It seems pretty dang glitched-out to me. â
Despite the void, his expression brightened.
âThereâs a system - a method - to it,   if itâs something you can replicate over and over!   If you canât, well... thatâs just a plain olâ irregularity.   Less fascinating than glitches, if you ask me.â
He rubbed the back of his neck as the inky darkness remained as deep and foreboding as ever. He had seen such a darkness before. It usually accompanied a sickly feeling that felt like he was about to fall off the edge of the world, a feeling that he didnât want to experience ever again.
â... I think I know what this one is, though. Itâs been a while,   so itâs sort of nostalgic to look at. I didnât know that   these still happened, you see.â

Well, it looks like Lance nodded off at his desk again. Itâs a bit early to crash, but itâs been a long week.
Do you ⌠ Let him sleep    Wake him up
Cal brushed his bangs away from his eyes in disbelief. It was unlike Lance to leave himself with his guard down, especially on a day just before that day.
He had come with some papers from Professor Oak. It was a list of trainers that had completed the Kanto gym circuit in the last quarter, which in turn meant that they were now qualified to challenge the Indigo League. Lance was to sign his acknowledgement of the new challengers, but right now...
Cal helped himself to a cup of water from the cooler, took a seat, and waited.

â Okay look, âglitches in the matrixâ is a really pop-culturey        sounding metaphor that not everyone is wise on. Like⌠what        are you even going on about, yâknow? âÂ
( She had never seen the matrix. )                â The x-axis or the y-axis? Which              matrices are we even dealing with? âÂ
âNo, not those matrices. A matrix, as in a system. To be exact ... itâs the system weâre living in. Itâs not mathematical at all. Well -- I guess glitches arenât supposed to be. Same goes for life.â
hikaup:
â Iâm just sayinâ, that sounds pretty ridiculous. â
âIt does, doesnât it? But as they say, glitches in the matrix happen.â

@calmereflection -- battles, or the aftermath of.
Sometimes, there was a flash of lightning behind those lifeless eyes. Someone he knew used to call it a âmanic glintâ and would say something about âbattling potential,â but Cal thought very little of it. He wasnât the one looking at himself, and therefore, he wouldnât know.
The match had been close, with the foreignerâs team claiming victory despite Calâs unorthodox strategies.
âGood match,â he smiled, conceding the fact that his opponent had been a good fight.Â
He rarely battled outside of the Trainerâs House, but then again, he almost never left the Trainerâs House if he could help it.
âYouâre ... Kalosian, right? You certainly live its spirit.â

There was a sigh at the other end of the door. They didnât leave, holding onto the knob tightly, still trying, wishing, willing, it to move. Â
She had heard the news and had come running as soon as she could, the contest forgotten. In the back of her mind, she recalled the face of her long time rival staring at her as she chose to leave in the heat of it all.Â
Sheâd only caught her breath then, placing her forehead on the door. Her actions finally came to a halt. What could she say to him? Â
Three flawless kills in a row. He was good at this game, wasnât he? Predicting his opponentâs next move was his forte, if he had to describe his strategy. It wasnât about having the strongest fighters on his side of the battle. It was all about using what fell into his lap.
The doorknob finally stopped jiggling. Maybe he could get a fourth flawless -- hmm. Perhaps the main reason he got those kills was because of the noise. Efficiency happened during times of distraction, according to experience.
He logged out of his game, and walked over to the door -- only to stop a few steps short of it.
The dark does not destroy the light; it defines it.

I took no pride in my solitude; but I was dependent on it. The darkness of the room was like sunlight to me.

I have a lot more patience for others than I have for myself, and Iâm much better at bringing out the best in others than in myself. Thatâs just the kind of person I am. Iâm the scratchy stuff on the side of the matchbox. But thatâs fine with me. I donât mind at all. Better to be a first-class matchbox than a second-class match.

âMa, when Iâm older, Iâm going to be a trainer just like him. I wonât go to Sinnoh, though. I wonât leave all of you behind. ⌠What do you mean going on a journey means leaving you at home? Iâll still be around, wonât I? Home is just a Fly away.â
