that word pulls at his ragged edges. makes his jaw tick, then clench. stranger, implying that he could be any more familiar than he already is. like there is something left to expose to the people here when they'd already pried him open, stuck their hands into him wrist-deep, kept him alive and for what?

i wanted to be able to walk again. 

he can hardly look in the mirror anymore, let alone see himself in his reflection. the day he died was the last time he saw who he was. whole. uncorrupted by steel and synthetic muscle. free to breathe and get fucked up and destroy himself at his own damn pace. he was someone to know, then. someone everybody wanted to know, and that sentiment remains in its own way, but now he feels gawked at. less than human because that's what he is now.
