Thanks to everyone who has donated, I have been able to put down another $300 at Scottsdale Veterinary Clinic where Pazuzu is receiving care! This brings his total amount paid to $810 at this clinic, as well as the initial $240 at the emergency clinic where he was first seen. This is huge, and has made sure he will continue to receive the care he needs.

However, this bill is far from paid. Currently I have received $455 from the youcaring fund, which has gone towards his bill at Scottsdale. With an estimated total of $1790, the remainder of his bill is still sitting at $980 which remains to be raised.

While Paws for Hope has generously agreed to help with costs, any amount that I am able to put towards his bill ensures that other animals can be seen with their help throughout the year. They are a non profit charitable organisation, so any costs that I can cover will be a great relief to not only myself but to their organisation as well.

When I went to go visit him today, I received great news! While his phosphorus and calcium levels are both still high, they are slowly climbing down. This gives me great hope that he will recover, but he may be living with long term damage due to the duration of time in which he did have elevated levels.

The way this type of poison works is that it gives the body an overdose of Vitamin D, basically telling the body to release calcium and phosphorus into the bloodstream. Due to the increased levels, the organs begin to calcify and eventually shut down. While he was on IV fluids and a diaruetic to attempt to “flush” the calcium and phosphorus out of his system, damage may still have occurred.

Things are looking bright for his immediate future; they removed the IV fluids to see how he responds. This is huge! It means that he is on the road to recovery, and that his immediate prognosis is positive. Without the help of the care team of Scottsdale and Paws for Hope for ensuring his place at the clinic, I would have lost my beloved baby. His fight is far from over, but it is looking more positive all the time.

The vet told me that he’s learning very quickly while he’s there! He was having trouble adjusting to kennel life, but he now knows that when he comes back inside from a pee, he’ll get a treat if he goes to sit quietly in his kennel. I’m continually amazed at his tenacity, intelligence, and thoughtfulness.

One of my favourite things about Pazuzu is just how thoughtful of a boy he is; whenever a friend enters the room, he’s sure to pick up a toy and start shaking his butt and squeaking away to make sure they know he’s going to bring them a present. Waking up to his delighted squeals of the overwhelming happiness of his continued existence is the thing I look forward to most every day. I can’t express how thankful I am for all the outpouring of support we have received so far.

Hey guys, I’ve been going through a pretty tough time at the moment. I normally would never ask for help in this way, but this has become a problem that I can’t handle on my own.

I got a puppy in October, he was just 5 and a half weeks old. He’s been a shining beacon of light in my life, and helped me through losing my car (which was also my home), and we recently ran into some extra trouble just as I was trying to get my finances together to go home to Ontario as I’m stuck in Vancouver.

I was out on a walk with him when I had a craving for a soda and a chocolate bar. I tied him up outside the gas station, checking as I always do that there wasn’t anything he could get into (5 month old puppies are notorious for it!)

Unfortunately, when I came out of the store he had somehow acquired a pile of rat poison. He’s been in care at a clinic in Surrey, but I’m reaching out for any assistance with his ever climbing bill. His prognosis is good now, but it was really touch and go for a bit.
