Are you nervous about the full moon?
“I feel...odd. Like, all this tension and/or anger is pent up. I feel a pull to the moon like I haven’t ever before. People always say weird things happen on a full moon, I just hope nothing bad happens”

Isaiah put Becky on her leash, and Isaiah left the motel. It was usual for him to go for a walk at this time of the day, especially if it was so sunny outside. The dog walked in front of him excitedly, sniffing everything. He held the leash loosely, not worried that she could run away, and even if she did, he knew where he would find her - probably in the forest. It was where they were heading, as it was both their favourite place to hang out.
His cellphone vibrated and he pulled it out of his pocket to see who was texting him, and decided that he would reply later. He walked past some strangers, and suddenly, Becky stopped and sat in front of a bench, tucking her head to the side while staring at the person on the bench, before approaching her and licking her hands. Putting back the cellphone in his pocket, Isaiah frowned and looked at the brunette sitting on the bench, who was not a familiar face. Isaiah noticed what Becky was doing and chuckled, pulling her back. “Sorry, my dog’s a bit too friendly with strangers.” He said, shaking his head.
Kat suddenly noticed a dog eagerly wanting her attention. She smiled at it, proceeding to pet it’s head and face. “Well, hello there!” She said happily with a quick laugh. She turned her attention to the man. “Oh, that’s okay! I don’t mind. They’re very cute.”
Kat remembered her family dog Samson used to be the same way with strangers, which made walks turn into long adventures of meeting people around her old town. “What’s their name?” She asked with a smile.

“Oh yeah? I’m hungover but not in any sort of fun way, I just work nights so it’s more of an emotional sort of exhausted form life kind of hungover that may never be escaped,” Nicky joked, giving her a soft chuckle, hands in his pockets as he leaned back in place. She definitely didn’t look hungover to him, though when he smelled the air he could tell she’d been drinking. From the looks of her though she was ready for the day.
“Nicky,” he answered, “I’m a lifer, born here and die here, probably.” He had left the town for work, and had gone to college, but really he didn’t like it. Why would he live somewhere he had to hide who he was when he could live somewhere he could be whoever he wanted openly. “Welcome to the neighbourhood. If you ever need sugar…,” he rolled off, pointing a few houses down. “That’s my Mum’s place, she may open the door in only a kimono but she and my dad are those hyper prepped people. More cans of food and baking supplies than one could ever need.”
“That sounds quite rough,” Kat said, remembering when she used to have two jobs as well. It was not a pleasant experience. “Nice to meet you, Nicky.” She lightly laughed at the comment of his moms kimono. “No robes like the ‘old days?’” She questioned with a smile. She hoped the comment would come off lightly and not as an insult.

“No? You look fine,” he offered, rubbing his own eye as he grew tired waiting on the edge of the street for his pack member to come and collect his car to fix it and give him a ride back to his own place. “You just sort of came out of your place and immediately sat on a bench, I thought maybe you were hoping there was a bus because there was a bench but the stop is actually a bit further down,” he offered.
“Oh, gotcha. ” She said, feeling slightly better. “I just needed some fresh air. I’m a bit hungover to be honest.” She laughed lightly. “Sorry, I’m Kat. Just moved here. You are?” She asked, lending a friendly smile.

Silence was something Kat would not be allowed to have much of today. It had barely been five minutes since she sat down before, what she perceived as a lovely, friendly town, decided to throw a literal curve-ball at her. A football, not sent flying by a weak kick of a ten-year old playing around, but rather an adult male werewolf in his prime, was going right for her face, plunging straight as an arrow at its unintentional target.
Someone cussed loudly in the distance, mortified at what was about to happen, unless the inflated rubber bullet was somehow miraculously dodged. There was no way he would make it in time to prevent the disaster. But at least he was jogging up to her to minimize the damage with an apology.
“Aw, shit… Are you a’ight? M’so sorry…”
Kat had been sitting on a bench enjoying the sunshine for only a few minutes. Suddenly she heard yell a cuss and a noise she couldn’t quite comprehend, and it seemed to be getting louder quickly. She turned in the direction and saw something heading right for her head. She didn’t have time to figure out what it was, just quickly raised an arm to shield her face. It hit instantly, leaving a quick but not so painful sting. Kat looked to the ground, seeing a football. As she heard someone run up apologizing, her brown eyes shifted up.
“You’d think grown men would know how to throw a football in the opposite direction of bystanders.” She said, her eyebrows scrunched in annoyance. Kat picked up the ball and tossed it to him. A hint of anger in her tone, she said, “I’m fine, just glad I didn’t get hit in the head.” She glanced to her arm where the imprint of the football resided.

River stepped out of the bakery with a tote bag full of freshly baked croissants to give to Colette and Has back at the store slash home. She had gotten her first paycheck and wanted to show Colette her appreciation and was sure that Has would feel left out if she didn’t get enough for him as well. She also ordered them some coffee and had them balanced in a drink carrier, but the woman making the order had given River three hot coffees when she had asked for an iced latte for herself. Therefore, she now had a tote bag full of croissants and an extra hot coffee.
“Hey,” she approached a woman who was sat on a bench and looked like she was zoning out a bit, “Do you want this?” River nodded her head toward one of the cups of hot coffee in the cardboard carrier, “They gave me an extra one since they messed up my order. It’s only going to go to waste if I keep it. It’s just a normal hot coffee but I got some creamer and sugar packets in my bag if you want to add anything to it.”
Kat heard footsteps approach and turned her head to see a woman standing beside the bench. Her eyebrows furrowed lightly in confusion. “You’re just... handing out coffee?” She said, confusion clear in her tone. It seemed a bit odd, and for all she knew she could’ve poisoned it or spit in it. Nevertheless, her head was killing. “Umm, sure.” Kat said, confusion still clear in her voice but this time she offered a smile.
She grabbed the cup from the woman. “Thank you, random, kind stranger.” A light laugh added. She tucked a stray hair behind her ear and took a sip. The warm coffee gave her goosebumps. “Sorry, I didn’t even introduce myself before just taking the coffee. Still waking up, I guess. My name’s Kat. You are?”

Nicky always sort of had rough mornings being that he worked all night and rarely got enough sleep with trying to accomplish as many life affirming tasks as he could either before or after. Working four in the afternoon until four in the morning most days would not have been awful if he didn’t have to wait for the grocery stores to open at seven am, or wake up early to go to them before his shift at work. Time just sort of became very fictional to Nicky.
Not to mention he had a strong addiction to coffee, carrying one with him that morning as he lazily rested out front of his parents neighbourhood with slumped shoulders and dark circles beneath his eyes. The coffee wouldn’t fix any of it, but it would keep him awake long enough to get back to his own apartment. He was held up though, his car parked on the street had broken down again and he was waiting for Ryden to show up and come tow the thing to his auto shop.
As he waited he watched a woman leave her home only to immediately find herself on a bench along the street. Seemed a peculiar thing, perhaps she assumed it was a bus station? Nicky was not sure, remaining by his car for a few moments before approaching her, “uh…you okay?” he asked.
Kat crossed her arms over her chest as she watched the bustling neighborhood go on with their day. The new scenery around her was calming, but the sun still seemed to make her head worse. She moved to rub her forehead and was suddenly startled by a voice.
“Huh?” She said, her head quickly moving towards the direction of the source. As her eyes landed on the stranger, she cleared her throat. “Y-yeah, I’m okay.” She slightly fidgeted and looked around before turning back to him, “Why? Do I look as bad as I feel?” She asked with a light laugh.

After settling in to her new home, Kat decided to relax and have a few drinks before bed. Apparently, just like snacking, she’d gone a bit too far unconsciously and drank a bit more than she wanted to. When she awoke she was instantly hit with a headache and nausea. She teetered out of bed and walked to the window for fresh air. She groaned audibly, the sun too bright for her eyes. After composing herself, she quickly showered and got ready for the day.
Kat closed her door behind her, locking it before leaving. She turned and saw a bright sunny day. The eager calls of chirping birds rang in her ears at what felt like an alarming volume. Her eyes scattered around her new town. It seemed to be be pretty friendly and cheerful. She wondered how long she’d stay here. She sat at an empty bench and people watched in silence.
