Anaïs Nin, from “The Diary of Anaïs Nin, 1947–1955″
till the end of the moon, ep. 36 .
“When I lobby for the inner life as a sacred site, as a touchstone, as a place of repair, as our integrity, as our private dialogue with our developing self, as our conscience and moral compass, as the joy of discovery, as deep connection with the known and unknown worlds of both experience and imagination, as the part of us we feel will not die, because in some sense it is passed on - as wisdom, as goodness, as an inter-generational touch across time, as the best of us, not least because it resists too much exposure to light, although it is light. The inner life is shy of too many visitors, but it is where we go to commune with ourselves, where we meet with the part of us that is both stillness and vibrant. A clear sound on a cold night. When I lobby for the inner life it is because it must be nurtured. Nurtured by nature and culture - the twin pillars of humanity here on earth; our connection with this planet, and with the civilisations we have created, their glories of art and architecture, of science and philosophy. We create worlds - inner worlds and outer worlds - and we need to live in both those worlds because we are born hybrids. […] We are contemplatives and doers. We imagine and we build. We get our hands dirty, yet we rise above it all, star-dreamers and shit-shovellers. Creatures of beauty, as well as ugliness and fear. Terrible failure. Impossible success.”
— Jeanette Winterson, 12 Bytes: How We Got Here. Where We Might Go Next

Will the angel stay?
Only by a windowsill, in the form of a sparrow.
An angel can't shine too bright--to do so would expose too many people to its heavenly light, and they will not believe it anymore.
You could see it, but even then, you're the one who hides his message in your chest, underneath your armor of silk and cotton and gold.
But if you release the truth, with jasmine flowers and birdsong,
the angel will return, but to consume your veins.

“Girls who are dreamy, girls who spend whole days lying down, girls who read whatever they come across, girls who are melancholy and bored.”

antique heart-shaped beauty mirror compact
Louise Glück, from the silver lily in "poems 1962-2012"
good activities (that have nothing to do with the internet):
basket-weave with plants and flowers
mud baths (just sit in some mud and cover your face with it too)
stand naked under the moon
make tea with foraged flora
introduce yourself to the trees around your home
attempt to contact your friends through mirrors (or the surface of a pond or lake)
sit in a river and let the water rush over your legs
imagine what it would be like to befriend or fall in love with an ancient being from the wood- imagine them tapping lightly on your window to wake you
learn a special whistle to summon your needs and wishes to you
crunch all the leaves underfoot, or else collect them in your hair as a wreath and declare yourself the Autumn Sovereign
imagine your fingertips sprouting lilac
become a guerrilla gardener
kiss the hand that gentles you, or if you can’t- pretend to kiss the hand that gentles you
stare intently at the sky in an attempt to become a part of it
draw your heart’s hiding place on the floor beneath your bed
fill a pitcher with water and pour it out, repeat until you are fulfilled
acquire a spool of golden thread and you will find it has many magic uses
at night, put a dish of milk on the windowsill to appease the fae
sing sweetly to yourself (your soulmate will hear it in their sleep)
stitch symbols of protection into your favourite clothing, use chalk to do the same on your doorstep
sew a tiny pocket into the inside of your coat, just the right size for a moonstone
walk in a circle seven times with your arms out and eyes closed
write your favourite bits of poetry down in a journal (spellwork in a spellbook)
craft (craft !)
practice a dance for a ritual of your own (bonus: perform the dance somewhere in nature or in the rain)
Demonia (1990) dir. Lucio Fulci
