Kate chuckled, still moving the dough. “His teeth will thank him later. Are we going to wake him up for dinner, or will he sleep through the night?”

She turned and glanced at him with a smile. “Not a morning person, I take it? Neither am I, unless it includes breakfast in bed.”

The corner of her lips quirked upward. “What about both? Savory and sweet? The fruit ones could be dessert.”

“I have a particular fondness for dessert, as you’ll learn soon enough. Bit of a sweet tooth.”

HE smirked. “Me too…luckily Aiden doesn’t. Otherwise the kid would be able to have cake for dinner.”

He moved, grabbing fruit and vegetables.

She glanced up at him, then carefully began to move the dough around. She’d never really baked anything… the closest she ever got was canned biscuits or boxed cake mix, and those didn’t always turn out well.

“What are we going to fill them with?”

“Well it’s for dinner so vegetables…chicken maybe,” he mused, moving away from her to raid his fridg, “If you want to just do fruit that’s fine too. I have a little of everything.”

He looked at her, raising a brow.

Elijah smiled and kissed her forehead. “I want you to be safe and happy, love. Having a home here will accomplish that, I think. It’s already furnished and ready for us.”

“Thank you, Wlijah,” she whispered, “it’s perfect. Let’s just hope the nosey neighbors stay away.”

"They should. We're simply a couple with a new baby, tired of the drama of the city. Now come. The house is waiting."

We divorced and she disappeared, telling me that she could care less what happens to Aiden because she never wanted him. She even tried aborting him without telling me. Luckily Elena found out and stopped her.”

He made a face.

“Then my company took off after we divorced.”

Kate had stilled as Damon told her what Katherine had done to him, her grip on her beer bottle tightening as he talked of Aiden. The whole situation was painfully familiar. Katherine and Tammy would get along splendidly if they ever met.

“So Katherine is after your money now,” she said. “I can’t promise to be civil if I ever meet her. She sounds far too much like my own mother.”

He smirked. “I wouldn’t ask you to be civil.”

He sipped his drink.

“We’ll get you a ring tomorrow. Nothing flashy right?”

"Please. It doesn't even have to be a diamond. In fact, I'd rather not a diamond."

“I think I’d like to be married before I have children, though. Let me figure out if I can handle a husband before finding out if I can handle kids.”

“Well my offer will stand, love,” Klaus said with a smirk.

Elijah rolled his eyes. “I shudder to even consider what may happen if you father a child, Klaus.”

Bella giggled, and slid her hand into Elijah’s. “Lijah. Going to Forks is fine. It would be nice to see everyone I left there.”

Kate looked at her boyfriend thoughtfully. “Maybe I should invest in condoms to make sure it doesn’t happen before I’m ready.” Then she snorted at his look of horror and turned to Bella and Elijah.

“We’ll hold down the fort here. You two go relax.”

Bella lifted the car seat as she stood after the plane landed. The ring on her left had glinted, and she hoped that Elijah and her would have a real wedding some time in the future. But as long as Ester was alive that wouldn’t happen.

Shortly after Elijah booked their flight, Ester made an appearance, and Klaus fast fracked their departure once he learned it was her influence to steal the child.

Elijah looked at her, eyes gentle, “I rented a hotel in Port Angeles until you’re sure of where you’d like to stay.”

Bella nodded. “Thank you. I don’t know if I want to stay in the old house…too many memories.”

He nodded and guided her closer, taking the car seat and smiling softly at his son.

Kate was stuck in New Orleans dealing with Esther, and she was not enjoying it. The bitch kept getting into her head, making her relive some of the worst parts of her life.

Damon sighed, hanging up the phone. Honestly…Katherine is making everything difficult. He could tell Kate the entire story so she doesn’t end up blind sided.

“KAte?” he called, walking down the hall she had disappeared down.

Kate pulled open the bathroom door, rubbing her wrists. "Sorry. I figured I'd go ahead and use the bathroom while you were on the phone. Everything okay?"

“That was weeks ago, Mother,” Kate said, her body stiff. “I’m fine. Elijah has been helping me with the police.”
