Ahhh this discussion is so interesting to me!
I know that Kyle and Denise said in many an interview that they feel the two of them could have "made it work"; that they were perfect for eachother. But that is also often paired with "in another life". I think that might just be referring to a life where Dedea was never put on Gorman, but a louder part of me thinks that it would need to be a life where the Empire itself worked differently.
I think this is why I queer hc them so hard and so often, because when you are queer or even just a little in love while being a part of a system like the Empire, especially when you belive in its cause... it's a bad scene. And so, even though in cannon they are technically nothing but a little kinky (Thank you Kyle), I see their relationship as suffering from that same thing. I think with the pressure of the Empire above them, how "perfect" they work is actually a curse. They have the capacity to complete eachother, and fascism hates that, so learn to hate themselves. Gorman or no Gorman.
And then there is Dedra's reasons for using Syril on Gorman. I fear she would always choose him as a puppet, and he would always find out (despite himself), that would always shatter them. It makes some much sense. It excuses all attachment for her. It makes them useful. It helps them both reap glory without her loosing control. And there would still be the hunt for Axis, and for Andor. I think if the Axis raid went as bad as it did in the show with Syril still around it would lead to... a lot of fighting.
But honestly, I spend the most time imagining they would. I like to think about their weird hairless cat. And about them learning about the death star for the first time, together. And all of that. I like to think that could have stayed alive long enough for what they knew to break around them, so all they have left is this weird, awkward thing they built. I don't think they would ever really learn the error of their ways, but maybe then they could at least be together.
