Fun facts on Popee The Performer Characters!
Papi The Performer/Papi Paraphone
- Papi has died 11 times throughout the entire series.
- Papi is the strongest character in the series, as he is able to send the moon down onto the Earth, causing the end of the world.
- Papi is Popee's biological father, but may have had a Nanny raise them due to his being a wandering performer. It is "unknown" if Marifa is Papi's biological daughter, but in the spin-off, Chinchikurin, Marifa is Papi's biological child—she simply has a different mother than her brother.
- Somehow, Papi is unable to identify his wife and sometimes thinks Popee and Marifa's nursery school teacher is his wife.
- Papi may possibly be intersex.
- Papi's actions as seen in the show and status at the Wolf Zurkus are implied to have been distorted by Popee's vision. They have a negative relationship.
- Papi always misses his family when he's away from them.
- Papi's greatest fear is an absence of love and passion (?).
- Papi may have siblings, though their whereabouts are unknown.
- Papi has a "frog juice" allergy.
- Papi met Alien in the cafeteria of Kyoto University. This suggests they may have attended the same college.
- In response to a question asking "What was Papi's life before he became a dad?", Wakako Masuda said "More than half of [his] life was in trouble, and the rest was [getting] over it."
- If Papi had a voice actor, it would be Fujio Tokita. He passed away in 2018.
- Papi was thought up as a character with both paternal and maternal qualities. He believes Popee has a long way to go...but with his maternal side, he also thinks that Popee's very cute.
- Some fans have mistakenly interpreted the lemon slices as Kedamono having multiple eyes. As Ryuji Masuda has stated before, this is not the case.
- Kedamono wears a mask because he's afraid of exposing his true nature. The thing is, of course, is that everyone knows he's an animal wearing a mask—though it's possible they're unable to tell what he is, exactly. Popee doesn't treat Kedamono like an animal, though—he instead treats him like a creature with a mask that's pretending to be human, which is exactly what Kedamono is. At the same time, he will treat him as an animal or human when the situation calls for it.
- Even when Kedamono's nature occasionally rears it's head, Popee doesn't look very deep into it, which makes Kedamono relieved, and makes him feel safe to be around. Kedamono also sticks by him because, while he appreciates Popee for being shallow, he also recognizes that Popee is lonely, and doesn't want him to feel that way.
- To an extent, it seems that Kedamono admires Popee's ability to unapologetically be himself. Wakako Masuda said, on twitter, that Kedamono feels that, in trying to be human, he could be more like Popee, and complement him better. Make him stand out more, which is what he wants. What he didn't account for is that he's more skilled than Popee is. Now, he can't be human—but he can't go back to being a wolf, either.
- Kedamono has died for a grand total of 10 times throughout the entire series.
- In the future, Kedamono has a son who is also named Kedamono.
- Kedamono knows how to drive. Whether he has a license or not is unknown.
- Kedamono's son was abandoned by his mother on Kedamono's property.
- In Yandere Simulator, There is an easter egg where you can wear Kedamono's mask by pressing the 'o' key during gameplay.
- As stated by Ryuji Masuda, Kedamono's age is "about 25" in human years.
- Kedamono's many masks were inspired by the Chinese film "The King of Masks" which is about a man who wishes to pass on his mastery of Bian Lian, an art where colorful masks are worn and changed almost instantly with movement from the performer.
- There was a discrepancy regarding canon where, while Kedamono is said to be about 25, in a drawing of their future versions, Kedamono was shown to be 18. It's been confirmed that, in human years, Kedamono will be 37 when Popee is 30.
- While answering fan questions, Wakako Masuda said that while Kedamono has no siblings, he is the second "Kedamono", and the old Kedamono is "gone". This previous "Kedamono" may have been Kedamono's father, as Kedamono passes his name onto his son.
- Like Papi, if Kedamono had a voice actor, it would be Fujio Tokita.
- The sound that Kedamono makes are actually instruments called Open Cuica and Mute Cuica.
- His greatest fear is hunger.
Popee The Performer/Popee Paraphone facts
- He wants to be better than everyone else in the circus, as proven by showing acts of jealousy.
- The reason Popee misbehaves and treats others the way he does is because of jealousy. Despite his behavior towards others, Popee appears to be fond of his sister, Marifa.
- Popee seems to get frustrated often. In a tweet, Ryuji Masuda noted that, in Japan, people have a fear that they won't be loved if they don't get good results or high achievements, and that this creates much fear and anxiety. He says this is how Popee feels, as well, except that his frustration and fear become insanity.
- Popee is very prone to loneliness, as can be seen in episode 37 as well as many other instances where Popee seems to avoid any situation that involves being left on his own. While it has been officially stated that his biggest fear is 'indifference' on others' part, this may have been a mistranslation by the machine translator Wakako Masuda uses; it's safe to assume his biggest fear might be loneliness instead.
- Where it has been confirmed in the past that Popee is male, a recent thread from Wakako Masuda suggests that, while Popee was said to be a boy, his gender is more complex than "male or female". He does not want to commit to a label of "male" or "female", and instead just wants to do what he wants. This means his gender is unknown—and up to the interpretation of fans. The only person who knows Popee's gender is Mirror Popee, who reflects the same gender.
- Papi is Popee's father. Popee refuses to believe this, however.
- As stated by Ryuji Masuda, Popee has no romantic experience and does not know if he likes men or women.
- Popee has died 28 times throughout the entire series.
- It's unknown what happened to Popee's Mother or who she is, but she is alive.
- Popee's tail is fake (how does it move? We'll never know).
- Popee was created with the image of an American. Despite this, his nationality is Japanese.
- When fans saw the design for 30 year old Popee, they asked, "Did Popee give up on his circus dream?" and the creator replied, "No, he didn't give up on his dream, but rather, after 13 years, he realized there's no live audience in the desert."
- His favorite color is pink.
- Popee doesn't really like hugs.
- Popee is "allergic" to Papi.
- Popee has canonically ran away from home "many times".
- Popee's favorite games are Undertale and Pikmin.
- If Popee had a voice actor, it would be Etsuko Ichihara. She passed away in 2019.
- Popee was born with his pigtails. Papi thought that he was the reincarnation of a bunny, leading to the start of a horrible legend.
- Popee's hobby is cooking.
- Eepop is a "hidden" side of Popee, which he finds embarrassing to have exposed. (tsundere Popee canon????)
- Eepop seems to need Onomadek for the same reason as Popee needs Kedamono: they are simply too lonely to go on without them. They are afraid to truly know their own self and instead must fill their existence with another person (or wolf), even though Onomadek has a tendency to antagonize them.
- Eepop does not appear to fear Popee and showed enough trust in him during episode 33 to take his hand, though they are initially shocked by his presence and stands shakily while Popee challenges Onomadek.
- Ryuji Masuda, creator of Popee the Performer, has stated in a tweet (using Google Translate) that Mirror counterparts may be female. While this is a highly debated point in the community, we now know that Eepop is the same gender as Popee—a gender only the two of them know.
- To Eepop, Popee is an embarrassment and, to them, Popee is the "mirror" version.
- Eepop has a manipulative streak that stems from their dependence. Where Popee is careless and exerts a physically violent method of control over others, Eepop instead tries to subtly get under people's skin in order to prevent abandonment. (These teens have issues)
- Like Popee, Eepop has their own logo.
- Because Eepop's gender is the same as Popee's, Onomadek may be male like Kedamono.
- There is an easter egg in S1E2 of Funny Pets referencing the wolves' masks, in which Corona dons an ever-changing oni mask that reflects her emotions.
(Unfortunately Onomedek doesn't have much facts :[)
Marifa Paraphone fun facts!
- According to Wakako Masuda, Marifa was originally conceived when they were creating characters for the second season of the show. The reason Marifa never appeared in the show was due to either a limited budget or technical limitations. It came down to her or Papi, and Papi was chosen over her because she isn't skilled enough to perform yet.
- Marifa's first (and only) appearance outside of social media is on page 8 of the Popee the Performer manga, where they introduce her and another character that doesn't appear in the show. Despite this, the first time her name was revealed was through the creator's twitter.
- Not much is known about Marifa, except that she is a trickster who feigns innocence in front of her brother, who believes that she is without fault.
- Her favorite food is pizza and her favorite pizza topping is pineapple.
- Her favorite color is light blue.
- Her greatest fear is ugliness.
- Marifa plays the tambourine.
- Marifa visits the desert from time to time.
- Marina's hobby is costume design and production.
- He doesn't have any, sorry Alien fans!
- Paola dies a total of 4 times.
- Paola is the only female character that appeared in the show besides the UFO girls.
- Being eaten has no effect on Frog, and it has the ability to take control of the body that had consumed it.
- Frog seems to have an infinite and unlimited amount of space inside itself, being able to eat an entire birthday cake, an infinite amount of candy, and also Papi. It seems to have another dimension inside of it.
- Frog is the only character to speak in the series, and the only character to have ever seen Kedamono's face.
- Frog is a wild desert frog.
- Frog wasn't in the show's budget, so Ryuji Masuda paid his friend that worked at a video game company ¥10,000 (USD $93.02) to make a model of just frog.
Okay, that's all!! All of this information was found in the Popee The Performer Fandom Wiki, you can find all the sources of these facts from there!
