Tonight is the opening at SFAC Gallery in City Hall! Excited to meet the other photographers in this exhibition - Westward - curated by @ann_jastrab . My tintype of the amazing poet and writer Fred Moten for an article in the @newyorkermag about him and his recently-published 3 volumes of collected writings. Meeting him and making this photograph during an LA heatwave in my friend's backyard was a memorable experience-what a lovely person. The article includes a verse from the beginning of his book 'The Little Edges: "taken to bridges from lula to lela to lena to eula to ayler to tala to tore up but untorn and bend like fenders breathe, felder’s or fielder’s, that family, man, that recess. so much more than air and world and time." #fredmoten #tintype

I first took photographer @sarahderagon's tintype 4 years ago, and she later invited me to a meeting of women photographers in SF. I'm super grateful - as that group provided much needed support for me as I was starting out with my new studio business. It is total honor to have my tightrope piece selected as the cover image for the 3rd and final volume of the amazing and brilliant publication 'The Encyclopedia Project', L-Z, founded by Tisa Bryant, Miranda Mellis, and Kate Schatz. It features creative encyclopedic entries by a long list of luminaries, Fred Moten, Rebecca Solnit, Wura-Natasha Ogunji, Michelle Tea, Daniel Alarcon, and MANY OTHERS! Sunday is the last day of the the exhibition 'Made by Hand' at PhotoCentral in Hayward (with Linda Connor, Jerry Uelsmann, Brian Taylor and others) I'll be there from 12-4pm on 11/26 for anyone who happens to end up in Hayward on that day! They printed a nice catalog, and anyone who buys one while the show is up gets a free carbon print by Vaughn Hutchins. Looking forward to 2 much-needed days off for the holiday, then back to shooting on Saturday - (had one afternoon cancellation if anyone was still trying to schedule an appointment). I missed the opening reception and panel discussion when I was in Alaska, but the show is up through November 27...in Hayward! Hopefully didn't do any lasting damage to my eyes looking at this overcast sky! But I'm so glad I saw this. Unlikely as it may sound, my dad was born in 1918, which was the last year this solar event took place, and seeing this felt like a way of sharing with him through time/space/life/death. And now back to the other form of time travel- lab managing orientation at City College!!!! (at City College of San Francisco)
