Nets by Giles McGarry Via Flickr: Something a little different from me, harking back to I guess where I started with long exposure photography and back to the sea again. This was taken in Japan earlier this year when I attended a workshop hosted by Rohan Reilly and Stephen Cairns. This was taken on the last day (IIRC) of what was the most wonderful week of photography I've had. Being with a group of like minded individuals travelling across Japan eager to get to the next location, whilst hoping you've done justice to the previous location. Also being able to pull on the expertise of both Rohan and Stephen, understanding a little more about their practices, their thought processes as well as the group as a whole. Stephen knowledge of Japan and especially of the culture - oh and the language was even more of a bonus adding to the whole experience. I came away so enthused, and luckily I think I did manage to get some 'keepers'. I would whole heartedly recommend workshops with Rohan and Stephen to anyone - and if you want to explore Japan this workshop is for you.

Shanghai by Giles McGarry Via Flickr: Well it's been a very long time since I posted anything on Flickr, in fact probably over a year. 2017 was an odd year for me, a back operation curtailed most of my activities at the start of the year, and then a huge amount of travel towards the end of the year, meaning I have a huge backlog of images, some processed already nut most not. This is one of those iconic images you have to take, I've been to Shanghai before back in 2008 and things really have changed. This is the shot I wanted to get in 2008 - and to be honest I had no idea how to go about it, last year, the weather conditions early in the morning were ideal, with a good amount heavy dense cloud slowly pushing across Pudong, obliterating the two largest towers - so actually the scene is as I remember it from 2008.
