Day 5: Shin AI has virtual pets

The cat’s name is Potato Sack (@sockthecoolcat suggested the cat and cat’s name)

The googly eyed potato’s name is Jagaimo (@5drown suggested the potato and potato’s name)

the snail’s name is Yorokobi (@daily-kai suggested the name)

The hamster doesn’t have a name, so feel free to suggest one and I’ll update this with the name and @ of who suggested it if I like it

If this was just a normal virtual pets game, Shin AI wouldn’t be able to actually interact with the pets. So it had to be custom coded for him to do that.

Midori ended up coding it, but this is Midori we’re talking about, so of course it’s not purely sweet and simple. If you neglect your pet for even a day, a weight that is intentionally a weight slightly too heavy for Shin to carry, will fall and brutally murder the pet, with Shin being too weak to save it.

Midori said it was “motivation to get stronger!!” Even though they both know, since Shin is an AI he can’t get any stronger anymore

he also said “I just want to make sure these pets are in responsible hands.”

He also added a functional whiteboard on the back wall and a picture of Shin, despite Shin not wanting it there

on the shelf there’s a mouse cat toy, a feather cat toy, and a cup of water, that the cat drinks out of

the cat sleeps in a duplicate of Shin’s scarf. A duplicate because Shin AI is coded with his clothes already on him, so he can’t change or remove them

Sara Chidouin - Sara is a bisexual demigirl.

Joe Tazuna - Joe is pansexual and accidentally genderfluid. They just started causally referring to themselves with all pronouns and Sara never questioned it. He didn't even realize he was doing it.

Gin Ibushi - Gin doesn't think about dating so he isn't sure of his sexuality. He doesn't care much about pronouns either. He'd respond to anything.

Keiji Shinogi - Keiji is bisexual and refers to himself with he/him pronouns. However, he does not care enough to correct you if you use she/her or they/them with them.

Alice Yabusame - Alice is trans and pansexual. He'll date any gender, but needs to have an emotional connection with them first to feel any attraction.

Reko Yabusame - Reko uses any and all pronouns while being the queen of the lesbians.

Nao Egokoro - Nao identifies as WLW but it stresses her out to consider putting an exact label like lesbian or bisexual on herself. Instead she simply dates who she wants to with no further explanation. She uses she/they pronouns.

Kazumi Mishima - Mishima is unlabeled. He thinks life is a very complicated thing and therefore doesn't want to confine himself in a box. He uses he/him pronouns in reference to himself, but wouldn't shy away from using other pronouns if someone used them on him.

Q-taro Burgerberg - Q-Taro is gay but hasn't had enough romantic experience to fully realize it. He thinks the "deep connection" he's had with some men is a good friendship when really it's been a crush on his end. He uses he/him pronouns.

Kai Satou - Kai is gay and gender nonconforming.

Kanna Kizuchi - Kanna is a she/they lesbian if I've ever seen one.

Shin Tsukimi - Shin is asexual and gay. He's only ever used he/him pronouns, but it would hit differently if someone referred to him with they/them pronouns.

Dolls

Ranmaru Kageyama - Ranmaru is trans and bisexual. He tends to be more interested in women, but a few men have caught his eyes before.

Naomichi Kurumada - Naomichi is asexual and gay. He uses he/him pronouns.

Anzu Kinashi - Anzu is pansexual and doesn't realize that everyone else isn't. She uses she/her pronouns.

Mai Tsurugi - Mai is a lesbian who's not above flirting with men to get her way. The song "Money, money, money. Must be funny. In a rich man's world." is ringing in her head every time she seduces a man into making a sale. She also uses she/her pronouns.

Shunsuke Hayasaka - He's the token cishet and a confused but supportive ally. He's the "She uses they/them pronouns :)" type. He's trying his best and will get there in time.

this!! yes, i think it's alright to have problematic relationships in media as long as they're presented as not okay!! but it's not exactly fun to see some people in fandom ignoring that canon has again and again presented Shin and Midori's relationship as extremely abusive:

Midori says "that's mine" when talking about AI Shin- possessiveness

during the above moment, Midori also went "stop getting friendly with them" to AI Shin - isolating him from potentially nicer people, behaviour that abusers are infamous for

AI Shin called Midori a "scary friend"

Shin quite literally felt ill talking to Midori, who "enjoyed" seeing that effect- "i felt really restless... i was so scared, i started sweating, i got anxious... he really seemed to enjoy seeing me like that...”

Midori outright expressed wanting to murder Shin- "since he was going to die anyway, i wanted to kill him with my own hands"

Midori would take photos of Shin without his consent AND hang them up- "he wouldn't let you take photos of him, yet he loved to put up photos of me... disgusting."

i don't know if you can even call that simply implication at that point, it is really quite obvious what the nature of their "friendship" was

If it wasn’t obvious already, this is why I think the group has a better chance to escape in the emotion route then the logic route.

Here, they’re all working together to expose Gashu’s misdeed. Which in a weird way works, despite not going how they wanted. They have one less floormaster to stop their escape attempts now, which gives them better leverage in the future. So that shows that cooperation works, but I’d still like to go over what Sara says and how it ties into the routes. 

“This is a turning point in our destiny” - We’ve already seen a massive change in the logic and emotion route. Therefore it’s not a stretch to think the endings will likely be different. The groups destiny was chosen with Sara’s vote, and it decides how much everyone will cooperate. 

“A path we could never have reached if we were trapped by endless suspicion” - In the emotion route the group has seemed to move past doubting each other. They’re all together now, looking for a way to escape. Yet, in the logic route Shin has more reason then ever to distrust his fellow “allies.” They took his sister away and reaffirmed his mindset that the weak are destined to die. There’s no way Shin can ever fully trust them after that.  

“The path of us all trusting each other and battling the kidnappers head on” - In the emotion route, the groups trusts each other quite a bit. That’s not the case in the logic route for reasons I mentioned above. Shin can’t trust the group, and they can’t trust Shin. 

“Together we’ll expose Gashu’s misdeed” - I don’t think “together” is truly a thing on the logic route. Shin is willing to work with the group to kill someone who ruined his life and save a child, but that’s an extreme circumstance that made him more agreeable.
