Looks like the fishing line is working far better than the other lacing. This is how far I got so far.
The fishing line arrived.
Time to start over on the lab coat. π₯Ό
Okay, I have remade the tie entirely.
I'm much happier with this anyway, the 'knot' at the top is easier to notice and the collar is cleaner.
I used an elastic cord here, but someone gave me a great tip to try fishing line for the lab coat. I ordered that and will give it a try when it arrives. Fingers crossed this tie doesn't share the fate of the old version.
But at this point I'm fairly committed to making a Herbert West cosplay out of beads.

As I had a question on it, this is the type of lacing I'm currently using for the project.
Pictures and explanation under the cut:
Okay, bad news update...
The black tie I made is also breaking. I'm begining to suspect it's the plastic lacing in using. I picked it because it was strong, which I figured I would need to hold up the weight of the large pieces in making.
However, if it's so strong that it's snapping and breaking the things I'm making, it's not going to be sustainable. I fear I will have to turn to using elastic afterall and figuring out a better way to deal with the weight.
If anyone has any tips, let me know, but otherwise I will see about potentially remaking the tie. Hopefully what I learn from that will help me with the lab coat.
.... I have realized just how big a project this is going to be and I'm a tiny bit nervous.
This represents 1500 beads. It's not even a fifth of the back panel of the lab coat.
Oh
Oh no
Small update on the lab coat panel.
I noticed the panel was starting to be... Leaning in a direction? Which made me realize for larger pieces you have to pay attention to which direction the beads are leaning compared to the beads below it. So I'm swapping that every 3 or 4 rows so it's more or less straight over the long term.
Also...
Yet more broken beads. I'm not sure why, but I'll have to try to figure out how to fix it afterwards....
I made a bead packer. I'm... Not sure if it violates tos? Pictures under the cut

I have begun work on the lab coat. This will take a significant amount of time.
I must have tightened it too much because a few of the beads broke.
I couldn't find all of the parts of the broken ones. So the first one I glued the halves I found together. The second one I tied the lacing together so at least there's not a hole. This will eventually be the back panel of the coat. I'm using plastic lacing because elastic would *not* cut it.
I made a cuff of reagent syringes.
I got the pattern from Crumpet on kandipatterns.com. they had blue and I just substituted color.
I have created the slim black tie for the outfit.
It's using breakaway clasps, and I attempted to make a "3D" knot. I am new to making kandi truth be told, and I did not use a pattern for this.
Don't expect it to tango...
It has a broken back.
Kandi bead pet of Rufus. The middle of the spine twists so the top and bottom half move independently.
Cuff in tribute to Rufus. RIP... Well, third time's the charm as far as "resting in peace" goes right?
Edit: forgot to say, got this from the tutorial on KaniPatterns.com. it was for a hello Kitty one and I modified the colors.
