I’m just utterly compelled by how cruel this scene is, given what we know now. The push/pull of Eliot here. How warm Quentin was about spending time with Eliot being adventurers on a boat! And how Eliot reacted to that warmth by being patronizingly affectionate and saying Q should go be life partners with someone else for a while! Because he wants this and therefore he thinks he has to crush it! But Quentin doesn’t know about the wanting! Only the crushing!

My chalk breaks. I collapse, panting, on the floor. My conclusion: that this is the most tortured moment in the whole dang show.

This scene is the reason I hope Quentin doesn’t fall into Eliot’s arms when he realizes what’s happened. (Well, plus that’d be bad TV, of course they’re going to draw it out for a billion episodes; or kill Quentin, they are definitely setting things up to kill Quentin, but whatever, what does death mean on television, I mean—) Quentin has SUFFERED and deserves some huge amount of compensation in the form of making Eliot work for it. He deserves to get PROOF OF CONCEPT that Eliot is ready for something good and true!!
