Tyne Logan from the Kalgoorlie Miner reports on my latest project. My son Kuberan Muir and I worked together on producing a small ebook titled "Ten Bushfoods... You Must Try!" I wrote it and Kuberan applied his graphic design skills to illustrate it with images of Bushfoods. The Kalgoorlie community is very excited to showcase the region and host the conference! Submissions are now invited for presentations of papers and workshops at this conference. Please see the application form. ( https://wangkablog.files.wordpress.com/2016/01/conference-paper-submissions-v1-0.pdf ) You'll hear back from the conference committee about the success of your submission by Friday 1st April. Papers and workshops which relate to the theme of the conference are particularly invited. However, this does not preclude other topics directly related to Aboriginal languages, language preservation work and programs. Please submit a digital copy of your presentation at the conference so that we can make these available on the conference website. A call will go out soon for presentations by language centres, language projects, poster sessions and stalls. Key note addresses at this conference will be by: 1. Kado Muir 2. The conference commences on Thursday the 16th and finishes on Saturday the 18th of June 2016. The conference's theme will be around the preservation, use and enjoyment of Aboriginal languages and cultural heritage. The conference timetable will be released March 2016. Post : The Goldfields Language Speaking Heroes URL : http://wangka.org.au/2015/07/07/the-goldfields-language-speaking-heroes/ Posted : July 7, 2015 at 14:35 Author : kadomuir Categories : Uncategorized The Goldfields Aboriginal Languages Project works with media groups to shine a light on those wonderful Elders who have worked hard to retain and teach their languages. 2015 has seen a partnership develop with ABC Open's producer, Nathan Morris, in order to make a few micro documentaries about some of the Goldfield's language heroes. Last week saw Nathan interviewing Kaprun Elder, Brian Champion, in order to make the documentary. Kuwarra Elders, Luxie Hogarth Redmond and Geraldine Hogarth were interviewed earlier in the year. Their documentary can be found at https://open.abc.net.au/explore/97489 These kinds of documentaries and newspaper stories continue to remind Australians that languages are alive and spoken in the region.
