Master shots
Yesterday we had staryed working on choosing some of the master shots for the final pieces we had to do for the animation. Kiran had chose a few and sent them to us, each of us choosing one to do so we all had some extra parts of work done.
Out of the 5 i of course used the 4th one of the cow jumping over the moon, wanting to work on my like trippy visuals for the aftermath of the drinking. Im not the best with digital or colourful art but this was a great way to try and branch out and mixing the media. I used lorynas sort of colour scheme for the moon and the simple but very cute sort of cow fron kirans style but a bit more simpler.
I wanted it to show the fireworks in the background to show its a festival still but also sort of a silly trip with the sort of comic book word layout.
Backgrounds
Due to not having many jobs when it comes to the actual animation I had just decided to sketch a basic background of the cows where the cows would be in the background just for a short scene. I researched on pinterest the grassy scenery of where the cows would be.
from this i started to sketch in my notebook my plan for this background.
From this sketch i used it to digitalise my work, making it a proper landscape just preferring to sketch first.
My final product, hopefully if used adding the car ella had drawn for us on top of it.
research of adult swim
for starters i started to research some of the best and well known animated comedies from adult swim. Robot chicken is one of adult swims most popular shows. They take real world situations and mix it with pop culture references for instance what if Godzilla had issues in the bedroom so on so forth. They also take a play on movies and other shoes which is very humorous. I'd say this is a great show to have as a reference due to the mix of adult and crude comedy with the animation styles. I would say because of some of the nonsense it makes it works perfectly for hey diddle diddle due to the nursery rhyme being such nonsense.
once again keeping up with the nonsense another of adult swim comedies is Xavier renegade angel. It's a surrealistic comedy following a self-obsessed faun like creature who is roaming the land trying to find the true meaning of life. It's quite a silly show from the clips I have seen and the utter nonsense works back so perfectly into our animation and the comedy aspect.
Story board 🤓🤓
Lovely storyboard sketched out by ella, showing how we wanted to lay it out. I made some tweaks in writing for the sort of camera angles we were looking for instead of it all being middle shot and being the same frame just for more regular flow.
Not the best writing out for directions of the camera but the best i could do just to make it not all the same frames.

Script
gabriel our script writer wrote out the whole script which we will be basing the whole animatic off of, with help from ella who had wrote out one as well. Just tweaks on some parts to make it his own as well.
Character design
We had all been assigned differeny characters for the animatic, picking at random. I was assigned the character or the fork, the spoon being gabriel, loryna was assigned the cat, ella the cow and the dog kiran. We had all put out heads down working on the character design so we all had our own sort of styles with them. We originally were gonna choose someone to do all of the characters human forms as their own art style and our own for the change. But in the end for saving time we have kiran being the main digital artist for the characters.
These are all of the character sheets for each of the individual characters. Thank u kiran for da lovely sheets 🙏🙏
Week 1: script writing
Individually we all had seperated our work in to the drafts of the scripts. We each decided to write out our own scripts to see how we each had imagined the whole idea. We had 2 drafts ourselves due to switch of the main plan . So i have the original ideas script.
The second script is the main idea of what we want to do for our actual animatic.
Nursery rhyme project
We had started this monday on our main project for this semester. Each of us has been given a lullaby, a genre and a time period. We had been given hey diddle diddle, comedy and the time period of the internet age (1990-present). We had started our brain storming immediately for what type of animation we wanted to create and work with.
I had researched the poem but not much had shown up except explaining how it was incoherent nonsense. We used that to our ability, and with the comedy theme we decided upon some very random snd trippy idea. We used adult swim as our sort of primary comedy pick, basing out main idea around it. We had a chat with paul gardiner about our idea and we had started our scripting after the chat.
Pixilation project
Tuesday, the 18/3/25 we had started the work on out pixelation project! It was me and my group missing just one of us due to illness, we had all gathered in the studio and had made a new storyboard which loryna had drawn for us.
After we had our new and improved storyboard we had decided to go to the park for our main setting, shockingly no other groups had decided the same as us so we had loads of free reign besides the people walking around us.
We had recorded our first draft in the first hour and had been given back the feedback for it to be a bit more smoother with the body movements. I don’t have the original draft on hand but i do have what we decided upon as our full animation and I have my edited version of it, just using sound affects so it keeps up witj its stop motion like look. Instead of posting both of the videos which are 45 seconds long each ill post my finalised draft.
I had used capcut as we could use any sort of programme for the editing aspect. I really enjoyed making this whole crwation with my group as it was a very funny and interesting start to our animation project. The fact we had a real rotisserie chicken made it the funniest part because of gabriel having to pick it up. All in all im proud of how i made my whole animation, planning for next time to maybe use more effects.

This is an animation I had found on youtube while i searched for any new sort of pixelation animatics. When i came across this video i couldn’t help but watch it because of the mario background, but once actually watching it, it was definitely a very game like animatic.
Even though this video contained people, from the way they edited the video it seemed so video game like, like i was playing some sort of game. The way they legs don’t move as they walk and the running motion having their arms in the same start of the run was very ingeresting. Not even just that but the way they swung from trees and had just moved camera angles to make it seem like a movement made it so interesting. I really enjoyed watching this video and would say it’s a good watch and very inspiring for my own animatics.
pixilation project
last week on the thursday we were back in college, I had been placed into my chosen elective, animation. This was a great start to our last project of this semester.
In this elective it had started off with us being grouped up for our projects, only 5 people placed into each groups. It was a tad bit nerve wracking to be placed into a group for the last project but I feel as though it’ll push people and myself not just to come in everyday but work on your teamwork skills and figure out how to manage yourself in this sort of group environment.
We had watched videos on pixilation which our first sort of project is based on, which is similar to live action films but animated in some sort of stop motion style. We watched many videos in the room and I have watched a few separately by myself just to continue getting a grasp. After we had watched the videos and learned the 10 principles of animation we gathered and had come up with our idea for our short animation.
This is our story board i had quickly sketched while we were planning our animatic. The plan is sonething silly of a guy casually walking down the street, finds a chicken, eats it whole like some cartoon character and essentially dies. It’s a very silly but also simply executed plan we had come up with together and I am excited to make this with my group. I’ve always loved stop motion since i was young, having made stop motions of my monster high dolls on musically at a young age.
!Elective reflection!
My project for this semester had started off with my first elective, sculpture. I had started off the project with a list of verbs and stuck by majority of them or my project, and had found that the most helpful part of the whole thing. I explored looking into using fabric of a pants which had come from a body, tying back to my body movement plans. I didn’t explore as much as i wish i would have, but still explored into different types of restriction of other body parts to the body like una burke had. It was an enjoyable experience for the most part, but still starting off with an alright start.
Secondly for my next 2 weeks i had started my painting elective. This showed me a lot of new ways of painting such as tona painting which i got really interested in and a lot more live painting, which i find very relaxing since i enjoy realism quite a lot. My first week was mainly focuses on our live painting, and sorting out the paintings together. My second week of it was spent with eoin and being left to my own demise, and was given very helpful feedback to continue on from where my project had started instead of starting a brand new slate. I continued with the sort of tonal paintings, even though i hadn’t created so much art from it I had really enjoyed the process and the freedom of it all.
And lastly, for my final 2 weeks i had done my weeks on animation. Going into college animation was my main goal of art to do. For the first week we had basically started our story boards and scripts for our end goal animation. It was really fun coming up with a story based on my theme and really enjoyable finding ouy what everyone else had wanted to do and seeing all the progress of everyones work through tumblr. We had moved on to learning about adobe animate and premier pro, both of these being interesting but sort of tricky platforms to work with. I had never been a digital sort of artist but had really enjoyed my time. With my final animation i was disappointed in not being able to animate through adobe animate due to not having access to a laptop from home where i would have prefered to use and learn, but hopefully in the near future invest into some sort of device to be able to animate from.
My overall experience of this project has been very enjoyable and i am content with my work, even though i haven’t had enough time with each of the electives i am still happy to have worked in each of these sectors. My main goal is to hopefully and successfully make it into animation for my main elective with painting following second, both being electives i would be very passionate and engrossed in. Animation is in the top because of my want to branch out and learn new techniques, new ways of animating wether it be clay motion, stop motion, digitally or otherwise.
[6/3/25] final animation project
This is my finalised version of my animatic. I preferred to try and move out of my comfort zone and make a digital animation, which for starters I've never animated before and I am not so common with using software for art. It is the first so I would say it is not my best i could probably do, especially having made it on a free software instead of adobe due to not having full access to a laptop.
My idea for this animation was sticking with my words from the start of my project, so I used the word control. I thought the most perfect idea would of course be puppets, finding it such a simple but different idea. My character has awoken inside some sort of theatre with these freaky characters watching it awake. It's held by this green sort of creature, being controlled. It's held by this sort of string and is just being played around with Infront of the crowd. The character is struggling and is scared, trying to move but not being able to, in some sort of paralysis. They give up, knowing their body would remain to be controlled. It plays back in to some sort of restriction like previous parts of my project.
There are a lot of things I would change for this animatic but having made it using just my hands and a tablet I would say I am fairly proud of myself for this. The animation elective I would say was one of my favourites, So many different techniques to learn and just interesting throughout. I wish I would have had more time to make more animatics but hopefully I will and will invest in some sort of digital pen :D
[4/3/25] animation storyboard
all of my pictures cropped and edited into one video. Watching this had made me realise and think more about my frames and how many frames i would need per second, using only one frame per second in this to make it slow enough for you to see each drawing, but having such a rough cut to each drawing.
From this i’ve planned on using some sort of animation app either on my phone or tablet to try and draw it which would be easier than using a mouse in the college, and preferable.

Voodont - Dee Joy
This is another animation I had looked at. I decided I wanted to look at other people's own short animations on YouTube instead of watching movies more so. I found this animation purely to keep some sort of theme for puppet like animatics. I was pulled towards this animatic more so because of the style of art they used. It really reminds me of some sort of cartoon like owl house or gravity falls which easily pulled me in. It was funny to watch the girl get controlled by this sort of voodoo dol that was brought to life with this sort of potion the original girl had. It was sort of a plot twist at the end from the doll trying to help her carbon copy but turning evil and hurting her like the doll maker. It definitely gave me some help with my own animation making.

The Maker - Zealous Creative
This is one of my animatics I had researched. I didn't exactly take much inspiration from it but it was a very interesting watch. I found the way they showed so much but so little emotion on the puppet like characters. I've always loved clay motion stop motions ever since I was younger, having watched Coraline, the Boxtrolls, ParaNorman and more. I would love to at some point learn more about stop motion animations.
