Here is my final poster for Boom Festival 2023! I'm super happy with how it looks. The colours look so vibrant and the star girl really stands out now and looks a lot less murky compared to my earlier drafts. The little changes made throughout really helped such as changing the text box colour to a lighter blue and the font to a more legible one. I think you can really see my tarot card inspiration come through. I felt as though I successfully blended the fun music festival colours with a mystic feel.

Here is the progression of my tie-dye background for my poster design. I followed a tutorial video in how to create tie-dye in photoshop and came out with a couple of drafts.

Over Easter from the feedback about my work, I made two more final poster drafts. And I'm so happy with the one on the left, I'm choosing it for my final poster design. It included everything I felt stuck out to me the most about my festival such as the moon cycle but also includes elements which I was previously missing, like that it was a music festival and the dancing star girl communicates that.

At random, we were given an image from Anthony Burrill's archive of works. I was given an image of a pairs of glasses with the text 'TESTS'. Our instructions were to re-imagine the image in regards to the word 'Anthropocene'.

Anthopocene is defined as a period of time during which human have had a substantial impact in our planet. I first needed to research and brainstorm the word and my image.

From my research, I created 8 thumbnails sketches, manipulating the image in relation to 'Anthropocene'.

These are the first couple of drafts for my poster design. I played around with the visuals that I've accumulated and used the ones with the most votes. I was mainly looking at visuals but played around with the title, however I later learnt we needed to use the original logo so I didn't end up using these designs.

After more feedback, I went back to some old visuals too that weren't voted like the sphere because of the vibrational music look it had. And I also used the dancing star girl drawing again because of the positive feedback from her I got.

Marcello Crescenzi is a graphic designer and illustrator born in Rome, who has made several works for music, magazines, different brands and cinema. He often deals with history, myths and folklore. His illustrations are all hand made using pen and ink on a scratchable surface and then digitally colored.

Additionally to our analogue mood board we also created a digital one. I applied what I learnt during our illustrator lesson for the cocktail brief, and keeping in mind 'less is more'. As well as illustrator in which I made the main mood board, I also used photoshop to crop and images with the magnetic lasso tool to make them into pngs. The girl in the middle is a photo of an actual Boom Festival attendee.

For the cocktail brief we were each given at random a cocktail for which we had to research and make a moodboard for. I was given the 'Vesper Martini'.

Vesper Martini orginated from the first James Bond book and was named afyer his love interest, Vesper Lynd. The cocktail is composed of vodka, gin and lillet blance which is a white wine infused with exotic fruits and botanical for a floral taste.

For my second set of thumbnails sketches I tried to maintain a theme of circular and roundness which can be seen quite clearly. Both because my 'sustainable earth' and 'moon cycle' sketches having the most votes in my last set, and because of the one of the principles of Boom Festival is 'Oneness'. Which to me is a very powerful message of everyone being apart of this planet and the power we hold together, and a circle to me was the simplest way to represent it.

I can see alot of dots and swirls in my sketches as well to represent energy which is something I would be bringing to my final design.

Pamela Colman Smith is the artist behind the Rider-Waite tarot deck, the standard tarot deck among tarot readers and remains the most widely used today. Tarot cards are used to gain insight into the past, present and future. There are 78 cards in the deck each representing a different energy.

To get a sense of out festivals vibe, we created moodboards in class using magazines and newspapers. I cut out any images that I thought worked with my festival, which is a mix of a hippie and a psycadelic vibe.

My first set of thumbnails. I chose words from my brainstorm and represented them visually. I'm really happy with how they turned out and I'm starting to see a direction for my project emerging.

To start off our music festival brief, we first began with making mind maps and word dumps. I've decided to do the Boom Festival in Idanha-A-Nova in Portugal. It's a psycadelic/holistic inspired music festival that celebrates oneness, the environment and love.

For our introductory exercise, we blindly chose a lego piece from a bag, and observed and photographed it from many angles.

We started by illustrating four quick thumbnails with associations that incorporated our shape.

The class voted on one of the four, which I then further explored the idea of the pants by keeping them square or creating a rounded version.

For the brief, I worked on the idea of procrastination and distraction - the movement of jumping from one thought and idea to another and getting distracted.

Firstly I looked into objects that distract me, then I investigated the negatives of procrastination, being all over the place, constantly on the move without doing anything productive. But towards the end I tried to look more into the positives and how it can actually help with the creative process.

Photography - For the photography elective, I did one week of studio work and the other on pinhole photography. I photographed myself a lot and tried to convey my idea of procrastination through body language, showing hesitancy in my movements. I also gained a much better understanding of exposure and how and why to adjust each of the settings.

Graphic Design - I participated in a variety of workshops throughout the two weeks and I learnt a lot about the importance of typography in graphic design. Outside of the workshops I tried to practice improving my proficiency in Photoshop and Illustrator and was looking at inspiration from other graphic designers on my social media. I really wanted to get a sense of what the industry is like.
