Crash Landing On You
Synopsis: The absolute top secret love story of a chaebol heiress who made an emergency landing in North Korea because of a paragliding accident and a North Korean special officer who falls in love with her and who is hiding and protecting her.
Aired: 2019 - 2020
Seasons: 1
Where I watched: Netflix UK
TLDR: Stole my heart and ran away with it. A near perfect series.
Rating: 4 stars
I have a lot of love for Crash Landing On You. No seriously, I don’t know if I’ll be able to keep a neutral tone throughout this review because my love for the plot and characters is so strong.
This series made me laugh. It made me cry. But most of all, it made me fall in love with pretty much all the main characters, as well as the supporting (with the exception of one character).
Yoon Se-ri is a bright, intelligent woman. She’s proactive in her career; she makes her own opportunities rather than wait for things to happen. Which is why her father decides that she should be the future CEO of his company over her brothers, which causes tension within her family. But despite how well Se-ri’s life appears on the outside, on the inside Se-ri finds it lacking. To state it simply, our girl is seriously depressed.
Which is why I think she decides to para-glide in the first place. She’s seeking the adrenaline that paragliding creates in order to feel something. Of course, with the strong wind that had been forecast, this ends disastrously for Se-ri.
She ends up stuck in a tree in North Korea in a military zone. Luckily, she ends up being spotted by the kindest man to ever grace my screen, Jeong-hyeok.
Jeong-hyeok has his own worries to deal with and yet he still ends up trying to help Se-ri get home to South Korea despite what this could mean for him if they are caught.
Now that’s the plot in it’s basic form. There are a few other sub-plots in play, including what happened in Switzerland (shown mostly as end of episode clips), the mysterious death of Jeong-hyeok’s brother’s, and everything to do with Seung-joon (the man who conned a lot of money from Se-ri’s brother and fled to North Korea), but I will it at that for this review.
What I loved most from this series was watching the characters evolve. Watching Se-ri learn a new way to live her life simply through the village women she meets in North Korea, and how, in turn, she teaches Jeong-hyeok to fight for what he wants. They both grow and, when they eventually come to terms with their feelings for the other, it doesn’t feel forced. These two spend so much time with one another, that its naturally that they grow to care for each other. Watching their relationship play out was the most satisfying thing I have watched to date.
Now you’re probably wondering why I didn’t give this the 5 stars it so clearly deserved. Well... if I was to state it simply, I would be giving a massive spoiler for the end of the series. And that’s not what this review is about. But what I will say is that one character in particular doesn’t end up happy. And after all the crap they are put through, it broke my heart. They developed just as much as all the other characters, if not more, and I felt like they got handed the short end of the stick.
Sure it made for one of the most heartbreaking scenes of the series, but I just felt like it was unnecessary to the story. It didn’t add anything other than pain.
But that’s just my opinion. Let me know what you think!
Cinderella and the Four Knights
Synopsis: A young girl who lives with her cruel stepmother and sister, accidentally meets 3 young and rich cousins who live a luxury life in a big mansion and is hired by the boy’s grandpa to look after their bad behaviour.
Aired: 2016
Seasons: 1
Where I watched: Netflix UK
TLDR: Started off strong, but had a weak ending.
Rating: 3 stars
From the moment this popped up on my Netflix recommended, I knew I had to watch it. And, when the show began, I felt like I had found the perfect show for me.
We had Eun Ha-won who was struggling to save up for university as her step-mother refuses to give Ha-won any money ad her father is always away. She’s tough, feisty, and doesn’t let anyone give her crap. Which, after an altercation with some men at a bar whilst trying to deliver some food, attracts the attention of Kang Hyun-min.
Hyun-min is your typical playboy and he sees an opportunity to upstage his grandfather by presenting Ha-won as his finance. Which is how Ha-won is introduced to the Kang family and Hyun-min’s grandfather, Jong-du.
Ha-won impresses Jong-du with her attitude and he makes her a deal - if she can unite his three grandsons, he will personally pay for her university fees. The only rule is to not date one of the grandsons.
Of course, she’s already fake engaged to the eldest grandson, Hyun-min, and it’s revealed she has history with the middle grandson, Ji-woon, having crossed paths with him before they are formally introduced.
Ji-woon is portrayed as the black sheep of the family, not raised in the luxuries of the Kang wealth until he was brought back into the family as an adult. He’s rebellious and moody, but also has a soft side.
Which only leaves one grandson left - Seo-woo. Seo-woo is the youngest grandson and spends most of his time wrapped up in his music. Personally, he is my favourite character. He’s kind, sweet, and the least troublesome out of the three men.
Obviously, having been told that they can’t date Ha-won means that each of the men develop feelings for her and the plot revolves around Ha-won getting closer to the boys individually as well as trying to get them to reconnect with each other.
Whilst I really enjoyed the story and the way the plot developed, I did feel like some of the character relationships were forced. The audience was clearly being pushed to want Ji-woon and Ha-won together, especially with the development of the sub-plot that starts to shine in the second half of the series, but I personally felt like the two didn’t have much chemistry.
Maybe it was the possessive way in which Ji-woon acted some times, or maybe it was because I never grew to like his character, but I found myself wanting him to have less screen time in favour of some of the other characters.
Then again, I may be incredibly biased because Seo-woo stole my heart from his first interaction with Ha-won, so who knows?
In short, I really did enjoy the overall plot to Cinderella and the Four Knights, but I felt like the character development was a little... lacking.
But that’s just my opinion. Let me know what you think!

Itaewon Class - Episode 5
Spoilers under the cut
Good Morning Call
Synopsis: Nao rents her dream apartment, but things are not what they seem when she finds out she will be sharing it with high school heart throb Uehara.
Aired: 2016-2017
Seasons: 2
Where I watched: Netflix UK
TLDR: It was cute, but towards the end I found myself disliking the main characters.
Rating: 3 stars
It’s been a while since I watched Good Morning Call, so forgive me if some of the details are a little sketchy.
I remembered really enjoying the first season. For me, it was everything I wanted in a drama. There was the unlikely situation forcing the love interests together, the whole ‘cold on the outside, soft on the inside’ male love interest falling for the ‘sweet and quirky’ female that I love.
I loved watching Nao slowly melt Uehara’s walls throughout the first season and reach a place where they not only respected one another but generally grew to care for one another.
Add in all the hi-jinks of living together but trying to keep it a secret from not only the school, but their family and friends, and you have a really enjoyable story concept.
What stops me from giving this series a 4 or even a 5 star review is the second series.
Everything changes when they go to university. What became cute character traits whilst they were still in school quickly grew annoying. I couldn’t help but feel like Nao was more interested in her relationship with Uehara than he was. In fact, I actually found myself liking Nao with Natsume more than I ever did with her and Uehara.
I just felt like for all their growth in season 1, they became very stilted in season 2. I didn’t feel like they were growing with each other, but as two separate entities. As a viewer, sure it would have been upsetting to see them split, but I felt like their dynamics would have possibly been better as friends than as lovers.
But that’s just my opinion. Let me know what you think!

F.A.Q
Hi there!
If you’re here, that means you’re looking for a review. That or you’re lost. Either way, here’s a quick run down to how the this blog is going to work.
Who are you?
I’m Kate and Incurrently write fanfics on my main blog, @bangtann-bangdamn. I’ve been finding myself falling more and more in love with Japanese and Korean TV shows and I thought I would share my feelings with you!
What do you review?
At the moment, I’m limiting myself to Korean and Japanese dramas/romance TV programmes. I may eventually expand into other media such as anime or movies, but from right now it’s just live action programmes.
How do your reviews work?
Each review will come in two parts: my ‘watch and write’ where I jot down my thoughts as I watch the episode and will be tagged under ‘kspoiler’ to make it easier for you to block if you don’t want to see any specific spoilers for what I’m watching. I will also have the review under the cut as well to make sure that, even if you don’t block the tag, you won’t accidentally read any spoilers.
Then there will be the longer, spoiler free, review of the series where I will give my thoughts on the series as a whole and whether I would recommend it.
Can I recommend you a programme?
By all means! If you think there’s a programme I haven’t heard of, by all means drop me an ask. I love discovering new things and, so long as it’s not horror, I’m happy to watch.
Can I submit my own reviews/thoughts and feelings?
Absolutely! So long as what you’re sending is about a series I have watched/am currently watching, I don’t have a problem with you sending your thoughts. I don’t want this to be a page where I’m just throwing my opinions out into the void. Let me know what you think! You can do so by sending asks, submitting posts, or even just replying/reblogging my reviews! Do what makes you comfortable and I look forward to hearing your thoughts
