Three dots. ⚫️⚫️⚫️ Tattoos have always been one of my biggest fascinations. Back then, I could only imagine how a needle feels like while it is piercing someone's skin repeatedly. While every tattoo means something different for each person who owns it, I suppose the enticement to submit myself to such a painful experience stems from my inquisitiveness and my love to explore and travel. Prior to coming here, I have always envisioned how my first tattoo would look like, and this was not the one. What I had in my mind were various images of geometric-style landscapes laid across the inner part of my arm. I decided that I would only dare to have a traditional tattoo soon after this. By the time we have reached the village, after hiking for almost an hour, I was immediately enthralled by the scenery and the hospitality of the villagers. It made me realize that it's not everyday I get to visit a remarkable place like this. Also, I am not sure when I would be able to relive this incredible and humbling experience. So instead of waiting to get the first tattoo that I planned, I threw the idea out of the window and opted to get this traditional hand-tapped body art now: a stripped back and a basic design compass etched in my back, with three dots denoting the signature of the legendary 105-year old mambabatok (traditional Kalinga tattooist), Apo Whang-od.
