Was watching a #storm silently flash across the water.  I’d always wanted to take pictures with my brother’s #canon and decided that #nighttime, #lightning photography was a subject a novice should start with.  Ran inside, looked up some shit, tinkered with the camera and set up at the end of the dock--my bubba lying down at the other end, protecting me from timber wolves. 

I pointed, I clicked, I reviewed.  I watched, I glanced, I reveled.  A 180° plane of flickering, blazing light coming from within a tower of #clouds.  Nary a bolt to be seen yet their presence lighting the clouds from within.  Illuminating the mantle, showing me how it churned and turned and twisted.  How it hung in the #sky.  But when I closed the shutter, nothing.  No glowing nimbus, no rolling thunderhead.

your life is your life don’t let it be clubbed into dank submission. be on the watch. there are ways out. there is light somewhere. it may not be much light but it beats the darkness. be on the watch. the gods will offer you chances. know them. take them. you can’t beat death but you can beat death in life, sometimes. and the more often you learn to do it, the more light there will be. your life is your life. know it while you have it. you are marvelous the gods wait to delight in you.

In his bed, we laid next to each other.  I looked his way, while he faced the ceiling fan, flywheel blurred as it swayed in its mounting. The morning light quietly reached every corner of the room, bouncing from wall to wall and off the white sheets; flannel, soft as the skin just behind your earlobe.

Some conversation about spirituality or lack thereof and his quick turn of phrase rattled around the part of my brain I had emptied out just for him and his words so they don’t do any permanent damage.
