Unpredictable | Penny&Grayson
He definitely noticed she wasn’t as sure. He pursed his lips for a moment before he reached over, ghosting his fingers along her forearm. “It’s going to be okay.” he said. It may have been an empty promise and Grayson wasn’t sure if it’d help ease her but he wanted to try, he didn’t want her to spend the night worrying about something that might not even happen. “Don’t worry about, tonight’s just us two. Penny and Grayson. That’s it.”
Maybe the emphasis on her name was unneeded but at times, Grayson worried Penny found it hard to differentiate between herself and Spider-Woman. Sure, Spider-Woman was a part of her but she wasn’t what made Penny Penny and besides, it wasn’t Spider-Woman Grayson loved. He did like that part of Penny, her heroic, brave, side but if he had to chose, every time it would be Penny.
He needed her in a way that definitely wasn’t healthy.
Feeling that maybe the mood was taking a dark turn, Grayson shifted back, keeping his foot against hers. “Don’t quote me on this but I’m pretty sure our waiter thinks your hot.” he said, grinning at her. “I don’t blame him, you are.” He offered her a wink then chuckled at his own cheek. “I mean, you’re more than hot, you’re super pretty, no you’re beautiful… I mean - ugh” He scrunched up his face, still grinning. “Shit.”
His touched caused a shiver to run down her spine. It always amazed her what his touch did to her. It was soothing and like a rush at the same time, which was odd in a way. The only thing she could remember being better was her mother's hugs when she hurt herself as a kid, before they died.
Grayson was right though, this was all about them, nothing else mattered. Even if someone decided to try to pull of an armed robbery in that very restaurant Penny would just be Penny, for him. This was an evening Grayson had planned for the two of them and she'd be damned if she did anything to ruin that.
Penny laughed, biting her lip slightly to keep the sound in when he kept rambling. Turning around in her seat Penny looked after the waiter who had walked away from their table, most likely headed to fetch the drinks they had both ordered and a complimentary bread basket. If this was a restaurant that did bread baskets, Penny wasn't quite sure. But turning back to Grayson she pulled her nose up a little bit, crinkling it for a moment as her eyes shut. "I don't care if he does." She shrugged.
A small smirk formed on her lips as she reached out to tap her fingers across his knuckles. "You, however, seem to be a little bit more unsure of how to express what you think." She teased lightly, the smirk turning into a happy but playful smile.
