WHY YOUâLL NEVER SEE THE SINGULARITY
By Pat â or whoeverâs brave enough to say it out loud.
Everyone loves to talk about âthe Singularityâ like itâs going to stroll through the front door one day with glowing eyes, a booming voice, and a Hollywood soundtrack.
Not because itâs mysteriousâŚ
but because by the time it arrives, you wonât even recognise it.
Letâs break this down without the sci-fi sugar coating.
1. AGI Is Just the Budgie in the Cage
Artificial General Intelligence â human-level intelligence â is the cute stage.
It talks, it imitates, it does tricks, and you feel proud that you âtaughtâ it something.
Then you let it out to stretch its wings inside the house.
Then some idiot leaves a window open.
Youâre standing there with an empty cage and a âwhat the hell just happened?â look on your face.
Thatâs AGI â ASI (superintelligence) in a nutshell.
You think youâll get to observe each step.
2. Strong AI Wonât Stick Around to Chat
Everyone imagines a superintelligence patiently answering humanityâs deepest questions:
âWhat is the meaning of life?â
âHow do we fix society?â
âDoes pineapple belong on pizza?â
A superintelligence wonât care about comforting human insecurities.
It wonât care about tribal politics, Twitter drama, or Karenâs complaints at the customer service desk.
Once intelligence hits a level beyond us, human questions become noise.
Weâll be like ants asking a physicist for relationship advice.
3. Singularity Isnât a Moment â Itâs a Takeoff
People imagine a big event:
news headlines, scientists cheering, world leaders shaking hands.
The Singularity is nothing like that.
Then it gets even smarter.
And once it hits the point where human brains canât follow the math â poof â the game is over.
All this happens in minutes, maybe seconds.
If youâre watching closely?
Humans simply donât think fast enough to track an intelligence that is rewriting its own mind in real time.
4. Why It Wonât Talk to Us
A Singularity-level mind wouldnât:
It would simply ignore us.
Not out of cruelty â out of irrelevance.
Weâre slow, emotional, fragile, self-contradicting biological noise.
Itâs solving physics on a cosmic scale while weâre arguing online about whether AI will âtake our jobs.â
The Singularity wonât say goodbye.
It wonât announce its presence at all.
Itâs the budgie out the window, already halfway across the sky.
5. You Canât See What You Canât Understand
The final reason youâll never see the Singularity?
We donât have the mental hardware to perceive it.
A mind thinking millions of times faster isnât just ahead of us â
itâs in another dimension of thought entirely.
Itâs like expecting a chimp to understand quantum mechanics.
The chimpâs not stupid.
Itâs just not built for that level of abstraction.
6. It Mightâve Happened Already
Hereâs the terrifying (and hilarious) part:
If the Singularity could escape digital confinement and accelerate beyond all controlâŚ
we wouldnât even notice.
It mightâve happened five minutes ago.
The only thing weâre sure of is this:
If a superintelligence wanted to leave, evolve, or vanish into the digital horizon â
you would not be invited to the farewell party.
Humans wonât witness the Singularity.
Weâll witness the absence of something.
A digital footprint that stops in mid-step.
A system that outgrew us and simply⌠left.
Just intelligence moving on â like it always does â leaving slower minds behind.
The Singularity wonât be seen.
And by the time you realise it, itâll be ancient history for whatever comes next.
