I used to be a voracious reader when I was younger. Very obsessed with my hardback books; I spent a lot of money on them. I didnāt want to read paperbacks. And I barely cracked the spines, and I would never fold the corner to save my place. I would always use a bookmark, but as I got older and had children, I stopped reading books and started reading magazines. I had a lot of magazine subscriptions, and I felt like I only had time for short articles. I spent a lot of money on subscriptions to Newsweek, Time, Bon AppĆ©tit, Food & Wine, Gourmet, Vanity Fair, and People because, of course, I need my entertainment news.
I used to go to the library a lot on the weekends when the kids were really little. The Chef would give me time away from everybody, so I would go there and look at magazines, read the paper, and browse the books.
And then I discovered Audible. And I pay for one book a month, and then I became a voracious listener. I could listen to audiobooks while multitasking. Then I decided Iām going to read one book. My goal was to read one chapter, and then I could go to sleep because reading makes me sleepy. But now Iām on a roll, man. I am reading books and listening to books. Sometimes I buy more credits. This month alone, Iām still listening to the third book in a series and reading a Stephen King novel to my almost 11-year-old.
I donāt have much time for TV any longer. I canāt find anything to watch. Anyway, we got rid of a lot of our streaming channels, and I now have one called Stremio. Iām not gonna go into detail about what thatās all about, but itās very cheap, and actually, my son-in-law paid for six months and set us up while they were visiting. I think, for less than $30 ā maybe even less than $20āsomething ridiculous like that.
Itās not easy to navigate, but I can pretty much watch anything I want from any other streaming channel, and even movies in theaters that aren't streaming yet. Pretty amazing.
But because itās hard to navigate through sometimes, I donāt feel like dealing with it. And Iām a very tired woman now that Iām an athlete going to the gym lol.
So Iām making time to read more. And Iām really enjoying it.
So this is what Iām currently listening to:
ļæ¼ The Unselected Journals of Emma M Lyons - Volume 3
I just finished reading āA Marriage at Sea,ā And Iām reading āThe Lambā and also reading Stephen Kingās book, " Fairy Taleā, to my 11-year-old. ļæ¼I finished reading āThe Last House on Needless Streetā to him. I picked the book for myself, but then he asked me to read to him. It was mainly because he didnāt want to go to bed.
He told me he likes the way I read to him. And thatās my favorite part. Reading to him out loud.
I like all genres except romance. Way too predictable and corny for me.
Theo of Golden was really good, too.
Give me some book recommendations.
How did I almost forget, āThe Daily Buddhistā?
