AUTHORâS NOTE: Dipping my toes into angstober this year. This prompt I chose to do about my outsiders oc Cat! Enjoyyy.
TW: Drugs, Drinking, Death, Overdose
Catherina sat on her bed, feet swinging, her pupils were large as they stared at her wall. It was creepy, really. If you didnât look closer. Â
âYou look wasted, Rinaah!â Freja laughed as she leaned against the doorway.Â
âHuh?â She snapped her head over to look at her friend, that was also wasted.Â
Freja just laughed again, walking over and swinging an arm around Catâs shoulder. âWe should go to the beach,â She sing-songed, âLivia and Lena and Johan and maybe Anders if we get lucky!âÂ
âMmm ok.â She got up, taking Frejaâs hand and following after the girl. The house was already a bit trashed even though it was only 11pm. There were some beer bottles and baggies and cookies and blunts. Things that Cat knew her parents would never want her to do.Â
She just walked out the front door, closing it with a click before heading down the street with Freja as the girl talked and talked about  things Cat couldnât understand. Cat was a little confused. Her mind felt blurry and mixed up.
She just held onto Frejaâs hand to guide her. She looked back up as she watched her bare feet sink into the sun. She saw her friends surrounding a small circle of rocks. She saw smoke but she knew it wasnât from a fire. She just made her way to the circle of rocks.
âMy Rina.â Livia smiled, putting an arm around the blonde, kissing the girlâs head.Â
âHi Livie.â Cat curled herself into her girlfriend, the smoke filling her lungs at how close she was to Liviaâs blunt but she didnât mind.
âHere, have a puff.â The brunette offered the blunt with another smile.Â
âOk.â Her girlfriend replied, taking the blunt and a quick puff. She had assumed it was just weed but it was something mixed. Maybe weed and cocaine? She wasnât sure.
Cat just casted a look over at the others as she took in the drugs. She watched as Freja had already found someone to make out with. Jonhan or Anders. She couldnât tell. The two boys always looked similar from behind.
âCome on, letâs go swim Rina.â Livia pulled on her hand.Â
âIâm not wearing a bathing suit.â Cat frowned, her hand intertwined with Liviaâs, letting the girl drag her.
âAnd?â The other girl just laughed, getting into the ocean fully clothed. Cat followed, her clothes now soaking the deeper in she went. It was a nice kind of night. Clear sky full of stars. The waves were almost still, not trying to knock over the two girls in the ocean.Â
Cat just wrapped her arms around Livia, shivering. It was cold, the ocean was always cold. Which was nice on a warm day. Not as much so on a cold night.
âCold?â Livia teased. It was a thing with the brunette. Any sign of weakness was something worthy to be teased of.
âNo.â Cat huffed, wanting to stand her ground.
âLook, how about you go home? And store these things for me.â Livia dropped a baggie into her girlfriendâs hand. Pink powder. Most likely cocaine but color dyed to be funner.
âI donât know. My parents could find it.â Cat frowned down at the bag.
âCome on, donât be so gutless.â The brunette rolled her eyes with a smile.
âIâm not.â Cat started before closing her mouth to think of more woods.
âDonât you want to help your girlfriend.â Liviaâs smile turned into a frown.
âIâll put them somewhere.â The blonde sighed, cradling them against her chest.
âThatâs a good Rina.â Livia smiled again, kissing Cat before sending the girl off.
Cat was careful to place them under her bed, no one ever looked there, when she got home. The drugs had started to wear off a little bit. The cold had helped. She just moved around the house to clean up before her parents returned. Trips to her grandmas were always long, sometimes she got out of them by saying she had homework. Which was never true. Cat was a top student, always got her homework done during class or lunch.
She pushed the beer bottles to the bottom of the trash can, the cookies back to their place. She made sure everything looked fine. She spread her homework out on the living room table. It was all done but she could play pretend. She just sat over it, putting her pencil next to it.
She was quiet as she listened for the familiar tires on driveway and keys in the door. She looked over as the door opened.Â
âMamma! Pappa!â She got up to greet her parents, pushing down the guilt she often felt when she was around them now.Â
âCatherina.â Her mother wrapped her arms around Cat before shushing the girl. She gestured towards her husband who was carrying Catâs younger sisters. Elisabeth and Kristina were holding onto their pappa. It was quieter when they returned home now. No baby Lars to wake up and cry about moving.Â
They had known Lars could die from SIDS. It just didnât seem like it would. He had been fine the day before. Giggling and gurgling. Cat could remember she was babysitting that day. Then the next day, he didnât wake up. I guess thatâs why they called it sudden infant death syndrome. It really was sudden. Their grieving period was short. Life had to keep moving.
Cat nodded at the twins, snuggling into her mamma again before letting go, knowing her mother needed to help with the twins.
âDonât stay up too late Rina.â Her pappa warned, leaning to kiss her head without dropping the twins. She nodded, watching her parents walk off.Â
She just gathered her papers up and put them away before going to her room. She needed to sleep anyway. Her brain still felt a little bit foggy.
Cat got home from school like normal. She opened the door with her key, Kristina was good at locking it after coming in.Â
âKris, Elisa!â She called, wandering over to the cookies on the counter and taking one.
No reply from either. She peeked outside to see Kristina sat in the garden, playing. She normally wouldâve seen Elisabeth as well. She placed the cookie with a bite in it down, walking around the house. She slowly peeked open the door to her room that was halfway open.Â
There on the ground was Elisabeth. âElisa, I told you not to-â Cat paused main sentence when she realized Elisa wasnât moving.Â
âElisaâŚâ She sucked in a breath before moving to flip her little sister who was on the ground near her bed. The little girlâs eyes were open, dead open, pupils so tiny. Her lips were blueish purple. And she definitely wasnât breathing.Â
âElisabeth!â Cat cried as she grabbed onto the girlâs shoulders, moving to search for a pulse point. She looked over at the open bag of cocaine under her bed. The one she had brought home. The one she had hid.
She shouldâve said no to Livia. This was suddenly all her fault. She made the wrong choice. Wrong choice. It rang through her head like a buzzer.Â
Her eyes shot open hard. Just a dream. Just a dream. Just a dream. Just a memory disguised as a dream. She just blinked into the ceiling.
She needed to relax. It was just a dream. She just sunk further into Darryâs arms, making sure she was close to her older cousin as she closed her eyes again.Â
