don't get me wrong, i never expected them to become canon.

but, this is my issue in general with WLW pairings on TV.

most of the time, they’re not given any substance in the show at all. sapphic viewers are thrown a bone, and that is all they will ever get. no fat, no meat, nothing to digest, nothing that tastes good, just something to chew to placate the audience so they'll stop complaining about a "lack of representation."

whether you like it or not, nancy and robin would tell a realistic and complex story together. they would tell a story of growth and change and overcoming, they'd be a sapphic pairing that is interesting and multi-dimensional and UNIQUE that mirrors the real life experiences of queer women during that time period.

not everyone grows up knowing exactly who they are, sometimes they have to live and learn and break out of that mold themselves. that was the entire point of nancy's character.

remember her tagline on the S1 poster, the phrase that introduced her character and thereby follows her thematically throughout the duration of the story.

sure, they made her a strong female character. sure, they gave her guns to shoot and they gave her hopes and dreams, but they never let her exist outside of the context of the men in her life.
