Junko Furuta was a 17-year-old Japanese girl who was abducted by four teenage boys while walking home from school. They held her captive in the house owned by one of the culprit’s parents’ basement. Only on the first day of her abduction, she was raped over 400 times, starved, fed cockroaches to eat and her own urine to drink, forced to strip naked in front of all her abductors and masturbate, burned with cigarette lighters, and had fireworks set off in her ears and vagina. She was also forced to call her parents and tell them that she had run away. The brutal torture droned on for another 44 days. By day 30, her injuries were so severe that it took her an excruciating hour just to crawl downstairs and use the bathroom. On day 40, she begged her torturers to “kill her and get it overwith.’’ On the 44th day, she would finally meet her tragic fate. The four boys beat her mutilated body with an iron barbell, causing her to profusely bleed from her mouth and nose. They put a candle’s flame to her face and eyes. Then, lighter fluid was poured onto her legs, arms, face and stomach, and lit on fire. This final torture lasted for a time of two hours.

Emmett Till was fourteen-years-old when three white men abducted and savagely murdered him. Their motive was anger over the young teen supposedly whistling at a white woman. Before the final killing blow, they beat Emmett’s face beyond recognition. Mose Wright, the boy’s great-uncle, took on the unimaginable task of identifying the body. He was able make a positive identification by the engraved ring found on Emmett. This ring was a cherished momento. It originally belonged to Emmitt’s father, Louis Till, who died in 1945.

Sketches of Jane Toppan aka Jolly Jane in court. Toppan confessed to the murders of 31 people although the real number of victims still remains unknown. It is believed that Toppan killed the majority of people during her time at Cambridge Hospital, Massachusetts, where she began training to be a nurse in 1885. She murdered her victims with a mixture of morphine and atropine and slowly watched them die.
